Best Home Organizing Tips

When you decide it is time to organize your home, the first thing that you need to do is to start with the closets throughout the house. The closets tend to gather the most clutter. It only makes sense to start with these areas and then work your way throughout the rest of the home. Closets actually contain a lot of room that can be utilized in many different ways. If you just use the closet the way a standard closet is organized - with some floor space and possibly one shelf with a hanging rod on it - you are not likely to experience a lot of space in the area. However, if you get a little creative, you will quickly find that your home closets have more space than you ever imagined! Simply use the following tips to maximize this space:

1. Consider purchasing a modular closet organization kit. These units come complete with shelves of all sizes, hanging rods, drawers, and other forms of organization that can be completely utilized to your advantage.

2. Carefully go through all of the clothing and other items that are in your home closets. If you see that you have not used something in the past three to six months, it is quite likely that you no longer need these items. You should consider donating these items to local charities and homeless shelters. Not only can you clear out the clutter, but you can also assist others while doing so!

3. If you keep shoes in your closet, it is best to place these on a rack that is appropriate. Not only will this help save space, but can also help save time in locating the shoes that you need!

Kitchen

The kitchen is another area that tends to gather clutter. It is important to ensure that everything in the kitchen has its own space. You will want to have an area for your can items, your utensils, your plates, and so on. You can accomplish this by utilizing wall racks and shelves, and even closet organizers for the kitchen. In addition to this, you can purchase space racks, and filing systems for recipes and so on.

Bathroom

The bathroom usually has a lot of open space that can be used to reduce clutter in the home. For example, you can purchase a shelf that fits over your toilet where you can store necessary items. You can also purchase corner and handing caddies that can be placed in the shower to store additional items. There are also medicine cabinets and basic cabinets that can be purchased at local department stores that can be conveniently placed on the walls in the bathroom to assist in your organization efforts.

Conclusion

As you can see, there are many simple, yet effective, home organizing tips that can be utilized in order to make the most of your home space. If you want to reduce the clutter and enjoy a more organized home, these steps can assist you in doing just that!

Concrete and Composite Floors For Your Kitchen

Amalgams, such as concrete and terrazzo, used to be the stuff of commercial interiors but increasingly we are seeing them brought into the home environment. Very hardwearing and available in a number of finishes these once-industrial materials are perfect for the modern kitchen floor.

Concrete
Concrete is the ultimate utilitarian kitchen floor. A blend of cement, aggregate and sand, it can be made in variety of textures and colors and can be polished, ground and waxed to become a beautiful smooth and glossy surface. Concrete is available in slabs or tiles but for best results, have it expertly laid in situ to give a smooth and even finish - though you will pay for the privilege. It is a very heavy material so if you want to use it on an upper floor gets professional advice. Concrete will need sealing to give a hard and high-gloss finish but once that is done, you will have a floor that is sleek, durable and extremely low maintenance. Though a staple of the contemporary and industrial loft look, a concrete floor is neutral enough to work just as well in a more traditional home and you can always stud it with a border pattern of pebbles for a rustic Mediterranean effect.

Terrazzo
A mix of marble or granite chippings with concrete or cement, terrazzo works brilliantly on a kitchen floor. It is extremely hardwearing and generally non-slip, though avoid wax polish. It can be laid in situ like concrete or bought in tile-form for a more decorative result. Laying different colored tiles next to each other or in a specific pattern will avoid that uniform shop floor look. Low maintenance and waterproof, it is a little less expensive that stone and comes in a variety of colors and textures, depending on its make-up. Once it has been finished with a proprietary sealer, it just needs a mop with water now and then to keep it clean.

Epoxy Floor Paint to Protect Homeowner's Concrete

Coating a concrete floor is often a good practice to keep the floor clean and durable. Keeping the floor crack free and protecting the concrete from other damages is often sought out by garage owners and other people who have concrete flooring.

Epoxy floor paint is a very durable and useful substance used to protect concrete floors and come in 3 main variations for use on your concrete floor areas. These epoxy floor paints also help to keep stains from oils, scuffs and other types of damages from occurring and preserves the beauty and luster of the floor for many years to come with easy maintenance.

The first kind of epoxy is high grade and somewhat expensive depending on the application. It is made up of 100 percent epoxy solids that cure and dry quite quickly. Since these types of epoxies are very quick to dry, to best prevent mistakes a professional epoxy coating service may be considered for optimal results.

They dry so quickly because they lack solvents to evaporate to cause the hardening process. These can come in a variety of colors and can be used to protect any concrete floor.

Solvent based epoxies will contain about a 40 to 60 percent content of epoxy solids and must be mixed and applied in a special way. These take time to dry and will penetrate and adhere to the concrete very well for a nice and even coat.

Solvent based epoxies can be dangerous as the solvents will begin to evaporate during the application process. These can be harmful to your health and cause severe complications when you do not wear the required respirator filters that are securely attached to your face and used during the entire application process.

Water based epoxies will also have a 40 to 60 percent content of epoxy solids but use a system that requires you to mix the parts together a certain way and in particular amounts. This can be confusing if you are not going to cover a large area and have a large amount of floor paint ingredients.

These carry less of a risk of health damage due to hazardous fumes because there are little produced. These epoxy coatings are usually available widely in many stores but are usually limited to a few colors. The most common colors are grays whites and tans and could be customized with special mix in colors and paint chips.
