How to Build a Garbage Shed

At home, one of the tasks we do for the waste outside and away from wild animals, or to raise a garbage man on it, or we bring in a landfill. For obvious reasons, although the pockets are still technically held outside in any type of case. Bears and raccoons love garbage and people get to do anything to become their favorite foods. We leave the doors aluminum storm peeled back far enough, had a raccoon inside for his picnic. We had a wood shedThe door from its hinges by a severe bear looking for a simple meal after waking demolished in the spring. There are some very nice plastic or rubber scales for this purpose, but experience shows that do not stand up and sold to the teeth and nails a 4 "400 pounds black bear.

Choose a location for the shed, which are easily accessible for you is the morning going to work. If it is difficult to achieve for you, very soon begins to leave the bags until you get home. This is a big mistake. The bears can smell food miles away and can travel up to a mile in ten days time. Even with the garbage in the barn and the stable block, a bear or raccoon may still groped to gain access. Your task is to keep all but the most determined bear their own barn. Bears are very strong and I've seen, wooden ceilings and ripped tiles, heavy hinges bent plywood siding and crushed pretzels. Bears go with their waste when spooked, and in turn spreadWaste over a wide area. If you do not clean the is an open invitation to all animals in the area. Nothing like going out at 6:00 and see your trash all over your garden.

Once a site is chosen, I recommend installing a concrete slab for the shed. At three meters deep, six feet wide, five meters is sufficient to maintain a good piece of pocket. A-inch thick concrete slab is four more than enough for a bed. Shape of the plate with two of the four ortwo out of six. If you use two fours, digging through forms easily inside to ensure the Under, you will receive a full four inches thick. LxWxD foot concrete than it would be modeled 3'x6'x 0.3333 = 5.9994 divided by 27 =. Cubic 23. If you use bagged pre-mixed on the bag tells you how many cubic meters of concrete makes each bag. Install some reinforcement steel or wire mesh n your dish to give maximum strength. Before the set of concrete anchor bolts installed about six inches longthe dimensions of the plate is not less than two page four on the back along it would be better on every Ensure screw threads on the actual finished project not under 2 1 / 4 inch when all is said and done .. Allow to dry and concrete for a couple of days, ligaments and back modules to fill the pot. Threads of the screws to remove plaque wire brush any form of waste concrete pouring concrete.

The base two of the four pressure treated lumber should bebuilding regulations, as it is in contact with the concrete. Install this basis two of the four ad then with the anchor bolt, a washer and nut to be installed on each screw. Once satisfied that your base is flat and tighten all nuts square. Frame the wall building with a minimum of 3-2 with four legs on each short side wall and twelve inches long focused on the rear panel. They attribute the joints that contributions do this, so they can then be as strong as possible. Now, install a dual twofour plates around the top two of the four scales lapping on the wall adjacent to each end. Most lumber yards selling metal band in three meters in length or in rolls. Installing a piece of tape diagonally on each side of the upper plate in front of the flat bottom corner on the outside of framing. Nail strip every prisoner and crosses both the top and bottom plates.

You should now have a very strong cage shot throw your garbage. A wide range of materialThe external texture 111 plywood. It 'very strong and not particularly expensive. With both an adhesive caulking as the company name liquid nails or similar, full spread on each deck before applying the fitting plywood. You can nail the siding, trim with screws but it is much better and the bear will make things much harder to rip the plywood from the tunnel. Not cheating on the number of screws used .. The edges should not exceed ten centimeters at the center and forumCm fields at the center.

Complete all multilayer coatings.

Since the roof beams in such a short period of two to four feet can also be used for this. Twelve or fourteen inch centers is great, but OK is also sixteen. Louder is better. Structure in all beams and add your band front and back, two of the four material products. Do not use a light material like a bear is two splinter group, in a second. Hurricane anchor beams are available in all the lumber yardsbox stores and now today in all parts of the world. Install a beam framing hurricane at least every other beam and secure a nail or screw the top plates of the anchor. Make sure each string tightly screwed and the top plates. With glue and screws, install the roof in a piece of plywood. Roof plywood should be at least 8.5 cm thick 4.3-inch better. screw models are the same pages.

Now the installation of the roof. Whether fiberglass shingles,Roll roofing or shingles of a large bear can rip a few seconds. These elements are interchangeable. What I do not want is to be able to endure to get through the roof and plywood sides. The doors must be built very strong as well. The doors are only as strong as the hinges are heavy, as is a set with a Pick HASP September I use a piece of 3 / 4 inch thick plywood for my doors, it is very difficult to break or splinter . Strengthening the external part ofDoors with one of the four equipment lines, and then to fix the joints than wood. Use bolts to secure the transport and assembly hinges HASP since they are much stronger than screws and leave little to the outside to grab the bear. When I went to work one morning I was greeted by the sight of a dozen garbage bags ripped open and scattered throughout the yard and driveway. An hour later I had to clean up the garbage on that day I'm sure I would make a further visit was, was as followsEvening and I did. I just left the doors open to the shed empty and lost interest.

Put a couple of good coats of paint or stain your shed and your good to go. Whenever I have the bags I spray a bit 'of bleach to kill in the warehouse or to avoid bugs, ants and other creatures make their homes inside the warehouse. It kills the smell of garbage, too. An occasional washing with soap and water to keep floor clean and odor-free warehouse.

Do Feng Shui Design Equal Boring?

to tell one of my favorite stories Feng Shui is the time, our school together, a trip to the Hollyhock House in Hollywood, Los Angeles is gone. This is a famous house by Frank Lloyd Wright-designed and we went to the regular tour. How many projects of Frank Lloyd Wright, this house had many are Feng Shui error on a point of architecture. It was dark, with a very narrow corridor to the door. The tour guide said this has also been made for a "birth canal" to createExperience. One could not simply say what was the orientation of the house and the ceilings were depressing low with Windows is not sufficient to list just a few problems. Wright will be used to offset some pretty uncomfortable and the chairs are mobile specific design that we encountered in food messy room!

So confused is when individuals of houses by Frank Lloyd Wright called it a good Feng Shui is necessary for water features in a similararound the houses he designed.

Our guide stopped his interview with juicy bits of information about the woman who gave Wright to design his house, oil heiress Aline Barnsdall, with references to the personal relationship they had with Wright. Completed in 1921, designed Barnsdall never felt comfortable in the bedroom and very awkward presumably wrapped on a small sofa in a step-down in the bedroom next to a balcony. With all the drama and traumaConstruction of the house and the people involved, a student who does not sound like people were very happy burst. The tour guide shot back that had a very interesting life, but Master Sang whispered a little comment on the interesting life is not necessarily happy life.

We all know that time is being rich and famous people who are absolutely miserable. You poor health or relationships satisfactory, despite all the wealth, power, and sufferWild games, now come on the cover of tabloid magazines. So with Feng Shui Design Concepts ignores, really strange, bizarre, extreme or architecture or design, not only influence the long-term value it can have on a person. Sometimes I use the analogy that could be fun for a few minutes on a roller coaster ride scared, but you want this kind of experience on a daily basis? Of course not. Life with the environment really unbalanced at first exciting, butultimately a burden on the nervous system and endocrine system.

I have houses all have been assessed, had half circles, dashed geodesic domes, pyramids triangular or boomerang-shaped, and other Frank Lloyd Wright home in the desert as a plane was on its roof.

Sometimes the home straight, square or rectangular is the safest and most stable. sheets of normal height and produce more healthy sleep / parallel vertical walls allowease of furniture placement. Yes, this is the balance at times a bit 'boring. Extremely big houses palaces are not suitable for one or two people and the house on the hill may seem spectacular, but the cause of the occupant of being alone or isolated. The central region in terms of size and distance from others is the choice balanced.

Even if customers ask about the color of the walls and carpet, I steer away from extreme color except when I know that the spaceHandle this type of energy most of the time. For example, a blood red wall in a certain part of the house and most of the time, but inevitably, in some years that could be cycles or the same red wall have a negative impact. I expect a person to re-paint their wall for a year? Not usually. It would be much easier to simply remove a red dot decor of the room that year.

When you think about extreme environments, categorize schools of Feng Shui is oftenClasses of "Yin-Yang theory," is almost always a problem for an environment that is expected extreme without some kind of game. So if the balance is a bit 'boring or conservative, at least it's a good reason for that.

Concrete stain which was once a specialty flooring product and found primarily in commercial applications has quickly become a residential product as well. Now found in many homes and gaining popularity, it has become today's alternative to traditional flooring, being used both indoors and outdoors. Though it was once available only to contractor's, the increased demand for concrete stain from the do it yourself population has brought the product into the mainstream.

Concrete stain promises to give beautiful results while being very simple to use. The cost savings as compared to other flooring products is substantial, and the extremely low maintenance of concrete "acid stain" is being enjoyed by all who have it. It tends to marbleize the concrete when used on smooth concrete and gives it more of a stone appearance when used on rougher concrete. It also has many other uses, such as garden statuary, retaining walls, water features, and more.

Along with homes and many commercial applications, such as restaurants and malls, anyone who has been to an amusement park has seen concrete stain. The boulders, waterfalls, and cave walls are usually made of concrete and then stained. Once the other states and cities catch on to this, you'll finally start to see much less peeling paint.

However, as great as concrete stain is, anyone that has seen and recognized very much concrete stain has inevitably seen a bad job as well. One that has spots, blemishes, or patches of trouble areas.

If the concrete has not been adequately cleaned and prepared, then inferior results will ensue. If you were to look at concrete under a microscope you would see that it looks like a sponge. Though it appears to be a smooth surface to the eye, it is actually very porous. The need to clean the surface is obvious and fairly easy, it's what stays trapped in the pores that will work against you. This is the piece of the puzzle that makes the difference.

"Concrete acid stain" which is by far the best concrete staining product, works by penetrating the concrete surface and pores, and reacting chemically with the cement and minerals within. Thereby permanently changing the surface color, it tends to mottle and give you the darks and lights, highs and lows, naturally. Obtaining the marble or stone look.

"Acrylic concrete stain" or other types of topical stains, which are similar to paints, come in solid colors, transparent, or semi transparent and still needs as clean of a surface with as clean of pores as they can get, to grab on. Without clean pores, no type of stain can work or perform as well.

Even when staining new concrete, oils, glues, curing agents, and other undesirables can be found. Many times you do not even realize that they are present, until after you have stained the concrete. Then you definitely know where your oils, paints, and trouble spots are, because acid stain simply will not take as well in those areas or spots, if at all. And acrylic stain or topical stains will not stick as well as they need to, leading to premature failure. Trouble spots can be caused by many different foreign substances, and once you've stained the concrete, it's a little late to go back to the cleaning stage.

Some suggest acid washing the concrete first, however, acid washing the surface greatly diminishes the effects of concrete stain and should definitely be stayed away from, along with cleaners that contain heavy alkali's. And besides, acid washing will simply not work on many substances. Especially if your dealing with an older floor or one that has been covered in glues, paints, or muck.

That's why Concrete Stain Prep TM was developed. The latest product by Concrete Camouflage®, it is sure to revolutionize the concrete stain industry. How Polyaspartics and Polyureas Are Revolutionizing Industrial Flooring

Polyureas and Polyaspartics were originally developed for coating steel to prevent corrosion. The outstanding qualities such as fast cure and durability led to experimenting for use on concrete industrial flooring.

What Are Polyaspartic and Polyurea Coatings

Simply they are an advanced version of concrete floor paint. They are a two component product that are mixed together prior to application and are rolled on the surface. They come in clear but are usually pigmented with gray or tan but any color can be created. Vinyl colored chips can be broadcast into the surface while wet. Either a full broadcast can be applied which looks like a terrazzo finish or chips can be lightly sprinkled to give a little more character.

Benefits of Polyureas Over Epoxy Coatings

1. Rapid Cure - Polyureas can dry in an hour so multiple coats can be applied in a day. For businesses that cannot allow for downtime this solves a big problem. An example is a company that can only allow for downtime over a weekend. With the right surface prep equipment the concrete can be ground smooth over a Friday night, cracks and spalling fixed the next morning with two coats applied on a Saturday, two on Sunday and in service for Monday morning.

2. Adhesion To Concrete - Polyureas have the unique ability to "wet" into concrete. This means they absorb into the concrete after the surface is ground smooth with industrial floor grinding equipment, diamond blades and a dustless vacuum system. The benefit is that the polyureas cure as part of the concrete rather than sticking to the surface like an epoxy. This substantially alleviates risk of delamination. Highly skilled professionals will test the density of the concrete and adjust the"wetting" for a particular surface.

3. Cold Weather Application - It has been reported that polyureas can be applied at below zero temperatures. Though few would attempt in extreme cold a coating can be applied on a cold concrete floor. This means projects can completed year round.

How Polyaspartic and Poyurea Coatings are Applied

1. Grinding The Concrete Surface - This requires specialized equipment, diamond blades and a dustless vacuum system. The applicator will adjust the speed of the diamonds which circulate over the surface grinding the top layer of the concrete. This creates a lot of dust which is contained in specialized high power vacuum systems. The grinding process removes the highs and lows in the surface creating a flat floor.

2. Crack Repair - Because polyureas can be thinned, they can fill a crack all the way to the bottom about 4 inches. Most crack fillers only fill what you can see and really just serve as a bridge in the crack penetrating 1/4" to one inch. The most effective crack repair will flow to the bottom, cure below the surface and "wet" into the wall of the crack with flexibility. Polyureas do it all. They block moisture vapor pressure that can delaminate a coating.

3. Application of Polyurea Industrial Flooring - Once the surface is ground smooth and flat the coatings are rolled on the surface. Since the floor was ground smooth the coatings are applied at an even depth throughout the floor.

4. Rapid Cure and Fast Return To Service - In new construction or remodels a fast coating application is a money saver. Most coatings take a week to apply and cure. With the proper surface preparation equipment and manpower a 10,000 square foot floor can be applied in 3 days and used on the fourth. It is even possible to complete larger floors with enough equipment.

Slip Resistance, Recoat, Durability and Ease of Maintenance

An advanced professional will use a specific size non slip aggregate in each coating layer. Aggregate size is critical to function. Too large and it will sink to the bottom of the bucket during mixing. Too small and it will be lost in the mix and become ineffective. Building the right size into each layer ensures slip resistance above the legal standards for the life of the floor.

Floors will wear from use. Excessive wear will require a recoat and not all coatings can be recoated. Most will require complete removal with excessive wear. Polyureas on the contrary can be lightly sanded and resurfaced to look and perform like new. Again a feature that outperforms other systems.

Polyasparics and polyureas are extremely durable like epoxies while being easier to maintain. Epoxies and polyureas will get scratched. The difference is that a scratch in epoxies gets frayed, trapping dirt and bacteria. Polyureas get a straight scratch which means routine cleaning removes dirt and bacteria while prolonging life of the floor.

Epoxy Garage Floor Etching

Etching is a step that sometimes gets overlooked when it comes to applying garage floor paint. However, for an epoxy coating to be able to properly do most of its job, etching is absolutely necessary. Most garage floor coatings can be applied, and will probably last for a while without etching first, but there are quite a few benefits to etching that make it worth doing, in most people's opinions.

When It Comes To A Concrete Floor, What The Heck Is Etching?

Etching, which is just a spiffy term for cutting into the the surface of something, is more widely known outside of flooring. Glass etching is a very good example. Although the end result will give the user a slightly better grip if we're talking about a drinking glass, etching is generally done on glass for decoration. With garage floors, decoration is generally not the primary goal, although the results do look better than the alternative, which is a liquid smooth mirror finish, to some eyes.

Is There Any Reason That I Should Etch Before Applying Epoxy Garage Floor Paint?

You don't have to etch your concrete garage floor when applying epoxy, but there are some very good reasons why you will probably want to. For one, the increased traction that epoxy can provide comes from etching, and it will be absent if the floor is not etched. This can cause slips, falls, and other assorted chaos, and driving on such a slick surface can also be irritating. If the intention is to do a lot of work in your garage, etching is definitely the way to go.

What If My Epoxy Garage Floor Paint Kit Says Etching Is Not Required On The Label?

In reality, etching is never required in order to apply a garage floor coating. However, if the instructions for your kit say to etch the concrete, then that is what you will have to do to get the maximum stated life out of your new epoxy coating. Without etching, epoxy paint cannot create a complete seal, and will peel far earlier. There are no hard and fast rules on how long epoxy floor paint can last, either with or without etching, but it will certainly last longer with etching than without. Some kits do not include etching in their instructions, which enables them to make the claim "No Etching Necessary!" or something similar. This is generally a marketing ploy, and the directions for those kits either do not mention how long the coating will last, or may say that although it not necessary, etching is recommended to get the maximum life out of your epoxy garage floor paint.

At What Point In The Painting Process Should I Etch My Floor?

Many of the more expensive epoxy floor coating kits will come with some sort of "etch and clean" chemical, and will come with explicit directions. When purchasing your epoxy floor paint, you will get the best value from the ones that include everything you need, as opposed to buying the chemicals separately. Whether in a kit, or purchased separately, etching should generally be applied to the garage flooring as the first step. If the etching product does not also clean, then cleaning your concrete garage floor will be what comes next.

Characteristics of Glass Wall Tiles

Some exiting effects can be obtained by the use of glass wall tiles in our homes. The trend of using glass wall tiles has started only a few years ago. Before that more conventional tiles such as ceramic tiles were used. However, many people are breaking from this tradition and trying out glass wall tiles to generate some cool looks. These can be used in any part of the home, like bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom etc. You can even use them outdoors like in driveways, swimming pool etc to beautify your home.

While using these tiles, you must handle them gently as being made of glass, these are susceptible to breakage. But if you use them smartly enough, these can lead to some stunning results. Glass is known to be an excellent reflector. This property is used by numerous home owners. For example, these can be used in swimming pool, in the room with a fire place or a music system etc.

You would need to prepare a base before installing these tiles. A base made of concrete, stone etc can be made. You can even mix powdered form of metals such as copper or zinc or any other metal which would help in protecting your room from heat. Another advantage of adding such metals is that these can help in providing your room a metallic look. Further, you can add metallic powder in order to create exclusive wall pattern. Your guests would surely get impressed from the combination. You can use such additions in any way you want and you are limited only by your imagination.

However, you need to note that you would have to shell out some extra bucks for these tiles. This is because apart from the higher cost as compared to other tiles, these need to be installed by an expert to avoid any damage due to improper handling by someone who doesn't know how to handle them.

Decorate Your Concrete: Ideas fot the Do-it-Yourselfer

You can enhance your home's existing concrete surfaces using acid stains, acrylic stains, epoxy paints, and scoring techniques. If you're tired of looking at dull gray concrete, there are some fairly easy projects for the serious do-it-yourselfer to give your patio, driveway, garage, etc. a refreshing new look. Or perhaps you plan to have some new concrete installed but you don't want plain gray concrete. Decorative concrete work costs double to triple that of regular concrete and many people simply can't afford it. There are inexpensive ways to decorate concrete after it has cured without having to pay skilled tradesmen.

Acid based concrete stains are becoming more and more popular for coloring concrete surfaces. They chemically react with the cementitious material to produce permanent color with variegated or mottled appearance like that of marble. This results in a natural, elegant looking surface. Acid stains are available in 8-10 different colors, mainly brown, green, and reddish earth tones. The cost is normally $60-$70 per gallon which covers 300-400 square feet. A coat of clear concrete sealer when you're finished really brings out the colors and beauty of acid stains.

Water based concrete stains are an alternative to acid stains and are much more user friendly because they're much less toxic. These stains don't chemically react with the concrete; they are absorbed into the surface pores and act like a dye. The big advantage of water based stains is the wide array of colors available. You can find just about any color in the spectrum and create a more vibrant and consistent appearance. They also normally cost about $60-$70 per gallon which covers 300-400 square feet.

If you want to venture beyond the basic staining of concrete, consider using some scoring techniques to create patterns on the surface. You can make your concrete look like a tile floor for example. It's up to your imagination. An angle grinder with a 4 inch grinding or cutting wheel is the ideal tool for this. The important thing to remember when scoring is to draw the pattern on the concrete first and make sure you're satisfied with the way it looks because scoring is irreversible. Most people don't own an angle grinder but you can rent one at almost any tool rental shop.

Epoxy paints make an excellent coating for garage floors and basement floors. Many commercial floors have epoxy coatings because of their durability and resistance to chemical spills as well as their appearance. In recent years, however, it has become very popular for residential use with an increasing availability of different colors. This is not a difficult project, but the key to successful application is surface preparation. Epoxy paints have also become available in a water based form making it safe for the do-it-yourselfer and ideal for indoor applications. They cost a little more than stains. For a 400 square foot garage, you'll spend about $200 for the materials needed for this project.

Don't think you have to spend alot of money for decorative concrete surfaces. With some instructions and a little bit of work, anyone can turn boring concrete into their own masterpiece.

Painting Versus Replacing - A Guide to the Economic Advantages of Painting

The Costs of Replacement: High Direct Costs and Indirect Costs

When you are planning to refurbish a manufacturing facility, municipal building, office building or warehouse, you always have to consider the costs of painting versus the costs of replacement. While it is true that replacement is a very long term solution, it is also a very costly solution, both in direct costs and in indirect costs.
The direct costs of replacement are obvious. Materials, man-hours and installation eat up most of the project budget. Unfortunately, the project budget only shows part of the true costs of replacement. Structural components are by definition linked together. If you remove one component, you affect the remaining components. This drives up direct costs, usually after a project budget has been approved.

Compared to indirect costs, though, the direct costs of replacement are strictly minor league. Often, replacement strategies require downtime, and for an industrial facility, downtime is extremely costly. While machines and workers are idled, a company can lose tens of thousands of dollars or more every minute of every day.
The Costs of Painting: Lower Direct Costs and Greatly Reduced Indirect Costs

Painting usually has lower manpower costs. However, if a surface needs to be specially treated or prepared, the manpower costs for painting can be comparable to the costs of replacement. Material costs of painting are usually far lower than replacement costs. An experienced industrial painting company is able to deliver a refurbishment solution to a facility with lower direct costs.
Indirect costs are lower as well. A good industrial painting company is often able to fit work schedules around your production schedule, minimizing downtime, and saving the company a fortune in indirect costs.
Industrial painting can be a very cost effective part of your building refurbishment strategy.  Contact your industrial painting company to ask about industrial painting costs and services.
Whether completing emergency repairs or a major project, industrial operations require a contractor who gets the job done quickly and at a competitive price while causing minimal disruption to on-going facility operation. Moreover, work in most facilities requires a contractor who responds quickly and innovatively to unforeseen problems and roadblocks.
Contact an industrial painting company who will partner with you and your facility engineers to provide value engineering before your project begins, find solutions to your problems throughout the work, and deliver a project that works for your operational and maintenance teams.

Do-It-Yourself Garage Floor Epoxy System

If you've ever considered using a garage floor epoxy system to protect and enhance the look of your garage floor, there are a few things you should know before purchasing one. Most home improvement stores carry epoxy floor kits designed for the do-it-yourselfer and you've probably heard differing opinions on how well they work. Some will say it's an excellent product and others will tell you not to waste your money. Well, there is usually an easy explanation as to why this product fails for some floors.

One reason for failure is not every concrete floor is ideal for applying an epoxy coating. Many floors have too much hydrostatic pressure, meaning water moves from the under the slab up to the surface in a process called capillary action. Moisture then collects on the surface, which breaks the bond between the concrete and the epoxy coat. If the floor "sweats" even when it's dry outside or there are areas that seem to stay moist for long periods of time, then an epoxy coating will almost certainly fail. It will gradually chip and flake away. Even if you don't think there is a moisture problem, it's a good idea to apply an efflorescence or salt blocker before the epoxy. This will help prevent moisture from causing problems.

The most probable reason for failure is improper surface preparation. The floor must be completely clean and stripped of all other coatings. Any stains or foreign substances (oil, grease, paint, etc.) will prevent adequate bonding between the concrete and epoxy, resulting in chipping and flaking. Most contractors will apply a coat of sealer to a garage floor after installation. It can take several years for the sealer to wear off completely. This sealer must be removed for epoxy to last. Although acid etching is an important step, it will not remove sealer and most stains. Etching will only open up the pores of bare concrete, therefore you must do all cleaning and stripping before etching with acid.

Before purchasing a garage floor epoxy system, you need to first decide if your floor is right for it. If it sweats often or there are areas that are constantly wet, then forget about it. Be sure that you are willing to take the time to prep the floor properly, as this is the most critical part. It also helps to put one or two coats of clear concrete sealer on top to serve as a wear coat. Water based acrylic sealers are ideal for indoor residential use. Despite any bad reviews you've heard about the do-it-yourself garage floor epoxy system, it can be a successful project if it's done correctly.

Garage Tile Flooring - Add a Great Feature to It

There are two basic kinds of garage tile flooring either PVC peel and place or the more elaborate interlocking tile flooring also known as non-epoxy flooring. The peel and place flooring is less expensive than the non-epoxy kind of tile flooring. The peel and place or PVC style flooring also has some limitations which are not found in the interlocking style of garage tile flooring. PVC flooring is not stain resistant and will stain when harsh chemicals are dropped or spilled on their surface, such as hydraulic fluid or brake fluid. They can also become slippery when wet, even when a texture is part of the surface, though the slipperiness is reduced. Stains in PVC flooring can be removed with the use of household detergents. However, kerosene and tar remover are not recommended for use in cleaning the surface of this kind of garage tile flooring.

When installing PVC style, it is best to allow the tile to come to the temperature of 72 degrees F before installing. It is not recommended the tile be placed if the temperature is below 55 degrees F. PVC style garage tile flooring come in two different styles, peel and place and rolls. The rolls do not require adhesive to install, but often have butt edge adhesive strips. PVC flooring cost less than painting the garage floor and can be ready to use, after installation almost immediately.

The non-epoxy style of garage tile flooring come in separate tiles usually measuring 12" x 12" sizes. They do not require an adhesive because they use a patented interlocking system. Each brand has its own interlocking system. These garage tile flooring require little to no tools. Depending on the garage being tiled, a utility knife, jigsaw or band saw may be used to cut curves or circles to make the tiles fit existing structures.

Non-epoxy comes in many styles which will allow for moisture to not stay on the surface of the tile, thus increasing its non-slip factor and of course, its safety. The other feature of this type of garage tile flooring is that it can be installed in a matter of hours, so the shop or garage does not have to be shut down. Another feature for the non-epoxy garage flooring is that they are not discolored by the spilling of harsh chemicals on its surface.

Non-epoxy flooring comes in many different colors and surface textures to meet the need and desire of the business. They support comfort from standing on ones feet all day long, due to the soft, spongy nature of the material. Yet, the material is strong and will wear for a long time without need for replacement. They are guaranteed for a lifetime. They also feature sound and impact absorption qualities.

There are two major garage flooring tiles which compete with painting the floor. The PVC has its features, such as less expensive and coming in either roll or peel and stick squares. The non-epoxy garage flooring tile are impact resistant, easy to walk on, resist stains better than PVC tile, and do not require loss of on-line time for installation. Yet, they are also the most expensive of the group.

How to Build a Pole Barn Style Garage

Two car garages can cost upwards of $25000 today for a simple garage with a concrete floor. With nothing fancy and by using vinyl siding on the exterior, you can build a garage yourself for under $5000. In fact you will need some free hands form time to time to aid you in some of the building work bur friends and family should be able to help without you becoming too much of a pain in the butt to them.

If you are starting with a level or almost level site for the garage, that is a big help. Heavy machines needed to level a site can eat up a great deal of cash really fast. Assuming the site is flat layout the rough size of the garage you are going to build with some string lines and stakes. A typical two car is twenty-four feet wide and twenty four or twenty-six feet deep. Roof trusses are spaced every two feet apart so keeping the garage measurements in even two foot increments is important.

Having laid out the garage location, step back and take a good look at the area. Is there enough room between the garage and the road to park a car outside? Is the garage square with the house? Is the garage aligned with the property lines? Is the garage the proper distance from the side property lines? All these questions are very important. Once the garages main poles are set, it will cost you good money to move it if it is wrong.

If you have decided you are happy with the garage location now is the time to lay out the garage accurately to drill or dig the holes for the main posts of the building. Start in one corner and setup a string line on the center of the post locations and drive a stake in at the other end of that wall. Continuing on with all four sides, the string lines should all be in the center of the pole locations and cross at the four corners exactly in the center of the four corner posts. Using a can of upside down paint ($2.99), paint the holes for the four corner posts on the ground. Now add four new stakes at the locations where the four strings cross. These will help hold the tape as you measure and layout the other post hole locations. If you have a helper you can avoid this step and let them hold the tape measure end at the string crossing for you.

Checking your drawings you will see that perhaps the poles are to be six feet apart on center. Starting on the outside of the corner post (not the center), measure along the line exactly six feet. Draw the post hole on the ground. proceed along the string and mark all the post holes. Along the back wall there will be five holes counting the corner holes. Now do both sides. Five holes here also for a twenty-four foot deep garage. The front of the garage is a bit different. Lets assume you are going have two eight foot garage doors. Starting on the corners on the outside of the post, the post hole spaces will be, two feet, eight feet, two feet, eight feet and two feet, totaling twenty-four feet. Garage doors come in exactly eight foot widths so you want your post exactly eight feet apart. if you choose nine foot doors, adjust your column widths to suit. When you install the typical 2x10 wood trim, the openings will downsize enough for the doors to butt against them when they are closed. The finished measurement of the opening would he seven foot-eight inches for eight foot doors.

Now it is time to dig the holes. Keeping our budget in mind and if the ground is actually the type that can be hand dug again you will save a bundle of your muscles can take the work. If the ground is very rocky or clay soil type, hand digging may not be possible. Rental stores have gas driven post hole augers with a twelve inch diameter bits that with the aid of a helper can make short work of the post holes. There are contractors that offer this service with truck mounted augers but again your budget will feel the pain. If it is at all possible, dig the holes yourself. It may take several days but by carefully covering the holes against weather, kids and stray animals and your wallet will love it.

You should have a helper for the pole work but it is not impossible to do it alone. I have set sixteen foot pressure treated posts alone but it is a real chore and a little dangerous. Your drawings will show the various lengths of poles for each hole. Longest poles go on the sides at the ridge center and shortest on the front and rear. if the gables are on the left and right. If the gables are over the garage doors, (front and rear) the longest poles will be center of the front and back wall. I have found if you install a pole slightly longer then the top of the truss, construction is a great deal easier. The first end truss will be supported on the top of the perimeter beams and lean against the poles. No bracing is necessary. Set all the posts in their respective holes. Check your drawings to determine if a concrete footing is required for the posts. If yes, pour a bag of pre-mix concrete in each hole and wet with a hose. Using a hole or shovel, stir up the mix so the water penetrates the concrete mix and level as best as possible in the bottom of the hole. Allow the concrete to dry overnight.

Set all your pressure treated poles into their respective hoes based on length.. Remember there are two very long poles at the ridge, four of the same length for the next set of four holes (two each side of the ridge center) and so on with all the poles on the front and back the same length. Set a corner post first. The post outside faces must be exactly in line with the two crossing string lines. Take your time with this part. The four corner posts must be exactly in line with the strings and square to the building. Bracing each post with some 2 x 4's and stakes, plumb the posts with a good four foot level. Not a two foot shortie. With all four post in their holes, braced and plumb, now with a helper measure across the garage form corner to corner to see if the measurements are the same. Exactly the same. The length will vary depending on the garage size you are building but these two measurements will and must be exactly the same.

If it is twenty eight feet four and one quarter inch one way, it must be exactly that size the other way as well. If it is not, you must move the poles until the measurements exactly match. Once they match, double check the lengths of your walls to see that you have not stretched or shrunken them by squaring the poles. This takes a bit of practice and effort but if you take your time and get the building sides perfect and the cross measurements perfect, you will see a square building is a lot easier to build that one that is not square.. Now go ahead and set, brace and plumb all your other poles. Make sure the separation distances are correct as well. Brace the poles well. You will be climbing on them and do not want them to topple or move out of alignment while you work. The band or rim boards come next.

Typically the sides that the trusses bear upon are 2 pieces of non-PT 2 x 12 lumber nailed and then through bolted to the posts. The opposite or gable ends are smaller sized lumber typically 2 x 8's and do not need to be through bolted. This work is also a heck of a lot easier with a helper but not impossible to do alone if you can lift the 2 x 12's. The front and rear boards on a twenty-four foot garage would be two 2 x 12 by 12 foot each and three 2 x 12 eight foot each or any combo that adds to twenty-four feet and lands on the center line of a post. An eight footer and a sixteen footer will work as well. These bands go on the inside and outside of the posts to support the trusses..Make sure all the posts are plumb as you proceed around the garage. One additional word about the band joists These 2 x 12 band joists must be perfectly level and especially on the truss bearing sides. The top of the 2 x 12 is the height that the bottom of the truss will be above the garage floor.Typically this is eight feet however it can be nine, ten or whatever you wish it to be. You must adjust your pole lengths to accommodate this added interior wall height.

Trusses are the cheapest and easiest way to frame a roof. A typical 4/12 slope trusses for a twenty-four foot garage is about $35 or so. Watch for sales at big box stores or local truss companies that are clearing out their lots. A twenty-four foot garage needs 13 trusses. You will have twelve two foot spaces plus one to start with. That comes to twenty-four feet overall. Another trick is to order two trusses as gable end trusses. These will come "flat" framed and when installed on each end of the garage will continue the wall line to the roof from the 2 x 4 girts leaving one straight face for the exterior plywood. Placing the first truss on top of the perimeter 2 x 12 band joist, line up the flat bottom portion of the truss (or birds mouth) with the outside edge of the 2 x 12. If you purchased trusses with an overhang or soffit, that portion of the truss will hang over the 2 x 12's on both sides of the garage.

Holding the truss firmly against the poles, atop the perimeter 2 x 12, nail the truss to the poles. The poles should stick up slightly past the truss s's at this point but will be trim cut later. Truss installation is a heck of a lot easier with a helper. Two men can take all the trusses and hang them upside down on one end of the garage and stack them. With one man on top of the garage, the other man can slide the truss over to him and using a pusher pole made of scrap 2 x 4, flip the truss upright into the waiting hands of his partner. I highly recommend the use of metal truss spacers. They are sized so when nailed to the first truss, and after sliding the second truss into the end of the spacer, the end result will be two foot space between truss centers. A quick nail in the top of the spacer and the truss will stay in place.

The ground man using a ladder can nail the truss to the perimeter 2 x 12 band joist securing the truss from any further movement. A third man in the crew helping with nailing makes this job even easier. Thirteen trusses should be erected in about two hours start to finish. With all the spacers nailed in place, a least two two by fours are required along the bottom chords of the truss as a permanent truss spacer as well. A typical W truss has two equal bays that the 2 x 4 may be run straight down the center on top of the chord and the ends nailed to the top of perimeter 2 x 12. While you have the extra manpower, pass some sheets of plywood up on the roof. Use 5/8" plywood if possible. 1/2" plywood meets code with metal support clips but is nowhere near as permanent a roof as 5/8 plywood.

At this point I install the 2 x 4 "girts" or perimeter horizontal boards that the side wall plywood will be nailed to. On the bottom of the posts at the finished floor height another 2 x 10 or 2 x 12 is installed around the entire perimeter with the exception of the spaces between the garage door openings. A temporary board is nailed across the opening to hold back the concrete when it is poured and then removed later for car traffic. Install the side plywood on both gable ends and the walls. This helps stiffen the structure as well. Install a one by two along both gable ends flush with the top of a scrap piece of plywood laying on top of the truss. It will stick up past the truss top 5/8 inches. Install your fascia boards on the truss bearing sides remembering the roof plywood when installed must be flush with the fascia so as not to create a bump in the shingles. Now install your roof sheathing (plywood). If you have access to an air nailer it will greatly speed this work. Make the roof plywood flush with the inside edge of the perimeter one x two you nailed on earlier.

Start with a full sheet of plywood. If you did your truss spacing properly, the eight foot sheet of plywood will fall directly in the center of a truss for nailing. Tack all four corners and perhaps the middle and move to the next sheet and so on. Start your second row with a ½ sheet of plywood to avoid having any vertical joints line up on the trusses in two consecutive rows. Then go to full sheets and so on. The third row starts with a full sheet again. Leave at least a 2" air space along the top of the roof at the highest point or ridge. On both ends of the ridge on a twenty-four foot garage make the plywood go all the way to the top for about two feet. This will leave a twenty foot slot. When the roof shingles are completed and the vent cap is installed, this slot will let the summers hot air escape out the roof. With all the plywood in place now proceed to nail it all as per your drawings specs but eight inch spacing on the edges of the sheet and 6 inch centers on the field of the sheets should be fine. No less the eight penny common nails are used for this purpose.

There will be some minor plywood infill work at sofft ends or "pork chops", around door openings and the like. Now is the time to nail the all plywood in place permanently. Install your 2 x 10 jambs at the over head door openings and do not forget to let them project past the plywood sheathing to allow a 3/4" vinyl siding J channel trim to rest against them on all three sides. Racially your framing is finished.

Install your two layers of ice and water shield on the roof and the balance of the felt paper. Many companies today say you do not need the felt but it is cheap insurance when a broken shingle appears and unless you can install thirteen or so square or shingles by yourself in one day, it will help keep the inside of the garage dry as well.

At this point many carpenters will install the garage floor to provide them with a nice dry flat surface to work on while doing the siding. Not a bad idea. See my article on pouring sidewalks and slabs if your going to try and your the concrete yourself. A typical 24 x 24 foot garage will use approximately 7.5 yards of 3000 pound concrete (24 x24 x.33 divided d by 27= 7.04 cubic yards, Round up to 7.5 cubic yards at least.) I would get eight yards to take into account a thicker depression at each garage door and around the perimeter edges. Eight yards at $85 per yard is $680.00. Be prepared to pour for when the truck gets there to offload within one hour. Ant time after that you will charged extra waiting time and increase your bottom line costs. Have enough manpower handy to wheel and place the concrete as quickly as possible.

By buying my siding and trims at a going out of business sale I spent another $1200. The wood garage doors were $350 each. You can add windows and walk doors at any time to a pole barn style building with little extra effort so they not required in the basic garage to start. With my garage complete I spent a total of $4100 cash money and a lot of my own man hours. Beats $25000 all to pieces. See my article on vinyl siding for help with this part of the work.

When to Epoxy Your Garage Floor

Most homeowners are confused about the perfect timing to get an epoxy floor for their garage. Since most homes have concrete flooring in the garage, homeowners are usually content with their garage floors until any problem pops up. The most common problems with concrete floors are emergence of cracks and the stains of oil that can't be removed. Since these problems emerge after the lapse of some time, most people don't go for an epoxy floor until the state of their garage floor really becomes a matter of concern for them.

An epoxy garage floor is an alternative to other flooring solutions for a garage. Since the car has to be parked in the garage, a lot of oil and other lubricants are spilt in the garage which are difficult to remove from concrete. Mostly, oil stains become permanent and give an untidy look to the garage. Stains from other lubricants are also a common sight in concrete garages which are very difficult to remove and require professional cleaning services. Professional cleaners charge a heavy amount for their services which is one of the reasons that epoxy floors cost less in the longer run when compared with concrete floors.

For most men, a garage is more that just a place to park a car. It is a workshop and a tool shed where they like to repair each thing and spend most of the time. For a good looking garage, it is essential that the floor is clean which gives a fresh feeling to the whole area. An epoxy garage floor is a preferred alternative for most people because of the ease with which it can be cleaned. One swipe with a wet cloth or mop is good enough to give the epoxy floor a clean look.

Another thing that you need to keep in mind when you're deciding about changing the floor of you're garage is the condition of the present surface. With concrete, cracks and small holes generally appear after some time. Since the car is parked in the garage, the weight of the car usually results in uneven spots on the garage floor along with a few minor cracks. When these cracks start to appear on the floor, you should seriously consider installing an epoxy floor. As the cracks start to get deeper, it would become increasingly difficult to level the surface before the installation of the epoxy floor.

Interior Concrete Waterproofing: Protect Your Concrete Against Water Damage

Moisture is a major enemy of concrete. It can weaken concrete, make it crack and in general cause deterioration of any concrete structure. Moisture can also cause staining and fungus that is nearly impossible to remove. Interior concrete waterproofing can help prevent moisture damage of this type.

Before you apply any type of interior concrete waterproofing you should first make sure any leakage or drainage problems are corrected. Just because you apply waterproofing doesn't mean water won't occur in the area. If landscape drainage problems or leaks aren't fixed, you'll still have water pooling on the treated concrete.

Interior concrete waterproofing is a sealing method that can be used on poured concrete, concrete blocks and even on stone foundations. Interior concrete waterproofing can be used on new and old concrete alike. For the best protection you should seal concrete right after the curing stage.

Interior Concrete Waterproofing

The sealant you use should protect against water, water vapor, and radon. To waterproof properly you may have to apply more than one coat of sealant, usually at least two. Read the manufacturer directions carefully before applying your brand of sealer.

Make sure to thoroughly clean and dry all concrete before you apply any interior concrete waterproofing. For existing concrete surfaces such as in a basement, all old paint or adhesive that might have been used on the floor must be removed before it can be waterproofed. The areas to be treated should be as clean as possible and free of any mold or mildew.

If you want to waterproof concrete foundation walls they must be cured for about a month. Sealants will keep cracks, holes or defects in concrete foundation walls from receiving moisture as well. For best water protection, it is usually recommended to seal both sides of the wall, using an exterior coating on the outside.
