Five Great Faux Painting Tips

Preparation Fix first walls

Tape your ceilings and baseboards with low tack tape. Blue tape works great. Use a cloth drop cloth instead of plastic. Drops to soak into the cloth and dry faster, so you do not track paint through the house. Fix holes or cracks in the walls first and dirt.

Primer

Aqueous dispersion of colors in "Satin" or "eggshell" is the best kind of paint for your base coat used.

Verify> Color of the spots where the solid wall with the same base coat as the rest of the wall. If not, as you can through the image on the right, see, shine through the patches. This is because, unlike glazes, the color is unclear. So the texture of the wall must be the same if you have to the places where the faux finish looks different wish. Practice first

Always practice your faux painting technique on boards first. You can save money by purchasing poster boards at any stationary or office supply store. Paint the board with the same color you use for your base coat. Try it on a small section of glaze to see if the mixture must be darker. Any glaze can with one or two drops are obscured acrylic paint.
Tape your board on a section of the wall instead ofpainting on the floor. In this way you can practice the technique just as you do it on the walls.

If you mix your own glazes, line your trays with a plastic bag. This saves time and mess because you do not need toWash the tray afterwards. In this way the glaze will not dry out and you can do it next day.

Then keep your tools in a plastic bag, even if you disagree with them. You can safely keep them overnight. However, we do not recommend going more than a day without washing your tools.

Mixing glazes

Mix a small amount ofGlaze first. Normally it is 3 parts glaze to one part paint to. When you mix a small amount, try that you see on your board first, whether to see the color you wish. If not, then more glaze or more paint until you are satisfied. Then fill aside a small puddle of the glaze to the side, your pocket with the rest of the glaze mix and match the new mixture, a small puddle, you have stored.

If you lead from the glaze, then do the same. Disusedcontain a puddle in the mixture before you totally exhausted. Then tray with glaze to keep mine and by painting until the mixture is the same density in color. Put a small puddle next to the puddle that you on the mix you were used to compare the two. This is very important because if the next tray of glaze is not the same, you'll notice the difference on the walls.
