House Painting: Planning and Preparation Are the Key Foundation

House painting is a formidable task if you want to make it a DIY project. Before you embark on this major undertaking, it is important for you to do it right. Planning and preparation are the solid key foundation which will enable you to perform the job successfully.

It is better if you can get a technical assistant to help you out. Planning involves surveying the condition of the exterior of your house, listing the repairs needed to be done, taking down measurements of the parameters of the house, canvassing the prices of the paint and other coatings you need, determining the final color paint you will use, method of application, what tools and equipments you will need, will you use a ladder or scaffolding, cleaning of walls, primer, paint quality, weather conditions and other important and related matters.

In choosing paint, there are two types which are the oil based and latex paint. Latex paint is a water based paint and very ideal for exterior painting. This paint can be easily cleaned with soap and water and it also dries up very quickly. You have to address the issue of the color combination at the earliest possible time. To accomplish this, it is best to fill your minds with exterior house paint ideas. You can visit some hardware stores and look at their color chart and check the latest paint arrivals. New technology has made it possible to manufacture paints which dry fast and are odorless. Get some ideas from magazines and the web. Visit the sites of online paint distributors and stores. Look for companies who are giving free estimates and try to get at least 3 quotes. It is better also to get same number of written quotes from painting contractors near your area.

With regards to the issue of color combination, it is important to pick several shades which blend well for the entire exterior structure. You need to match different shades for the exterior, front door, concrete, trim, roof, garage door, window frames and shutters. Your color scheme should compliment with the type of architecture of your house. Start with the color scheme for your favorite exterior area such as your garage door, fence, main door or roof. Make it your focal point.

For your exterior body, light to medium beige or cream, and light yellow or bronze colors are superb. These colors are resistant to sun rays. Don't succumb to any suggestion to use bright red or dark green for the body but it is great for your tile or metal roofs. But blend it well with the center color and match it will the other features as well.

When you are able to get the paint quotes from the paint companies and the painting job quotes with a breakdown for paint materials cost and labor cost from the painting contractors and have the opportunity to compare them, you will now have a clear idea of the scope of the project. Compare it with the preliminary estimates you have done yourself. Based on this information, you can decide once and for all if you want to do the painting yourself or assign the project to the painting contractor who gave you the best and most reasonable exterior house painting proposal.

Don't forget that the color you select for the main feature of your house will create a priceless impression on you as it reflects your personality and taste with the way it matches up and blends with the other minor colors. Your final color combination selection can make your house stand out in your neighborhood. You will know it from the beautiful and truthful remarks of your neighbors and visitors. Your family members will be the first ones to admire and congratulate you once the task is accomplished.

Log Cabin - How to build foundation and flooring?

GoRambling.com Discover more free ideas at my website today My wife and I are planning on building a vertical log cabin, often referred to as a stockade style log cabin. Here are some pictures to give you an idea. Here's one...here's another, and here you go. Anyway we'll be moving to Alaska, probably near the Kenai Peninsula or Matanuska Valley. Of course we're going to try and avoid permafrost, but who knows exactly what kind of land we'll buy. Our vertical log cabin in Alaska will be constructed on concrete posts that'll be poured into Sonotubes that are buried below the frost line (probably around 40 to 50 inches underground). And then the posts will come up about 18 inches into the air...at which point we'll begin the cabin. So yes, the cabin will be raised about 18 inches off the ground. Anyway, I have no experience to build anything of this magnitude, but this doesn't scare me. My wife and I look forward to the challenge. So needless to say, I have a lot of questions, lots more research to do, and plenty of planning that awaits us. I'm posting this video to present my plan for the concrete posts and the insulated floor that will sit atop these 10 concrete posts. First, here is my rough sketch for our small vertical log cabin. It's 10 feet by 35 feet. I've kind of modeled it after an RV, so I call it our RV cabin. It seems like it'll be a nice comfortable cabin that will serve us well. And it seems like it'll be somewhat easier to build than other plans. Anyway, I ...

Removal and prevention of white powder on concrete foundation walls and floors

What it is, as is caused, and their elimination

In our industry we are facing many homeowners, the floors are anxious to give a white flaky substance, or walls in his basement. Often the homeowner will be required if the substance is a kind of mold or fungi, if this is harmful, and if something is done about this problem and prevent recurrence possible future.

What is the white powder and soft on my> Cement?

If the white powder is based only on concrete surfaces, the substance is probably not mold. Instead, this powder is a mineral salt, commonly known as efflorescence's. This is based on concrete floors in basements and crawl spaces often acting as part of the process of moisture from the ground, concrete, and evaporation in the cellar.

Concrete is porous, and it takesThe humidity is a bit 'like a sponge. When used as part of a crawl space or basement, absorbs moisture from the soil around them constantly. In those circumstances, the moisture can pass on the inside surface of the concrete (known as the "dark side"), where the construction of the friends, the air inside.

As moisture evaporates into the air, can not run with mineral resources behind him, forming a salt-like coating on the concrete. Bianchi dusty uglyThe structure is the flower that you see on your basement walls is that the mineral in question.

How to clean efflorescence

Remove efflorescence is best done with a pressure washer - you can find a local hardware store. Your local store has a large variety of chemicals, you can use concrete surfaces, combined with the fact that the disc and cleaning fast.

For an easier way to combine them only one part bleach to ten parts water. U.S.a stable broom, and scrub the walls completely.

Phosphoric acid is also known to be effective against efflorescence. However, that should be used with extreme caution and should never be combined with the products of ammonia, which combine to create a poisonous gas when mixed. Phosphoric acid has the added advantage of being in other places also how to remove rust or oil. Be sure to consult a professional before using this first-handSubstance.

Preventing efflorescence

The best way to stop efflorescence is the promotion of moisture through walls and into your home to stop. A great way to do this will be the seal of cement on the inside, and therefore prevent its way through your house. This has the added advantage of creating a vapor barrier, the seal is removed the water vapor that would otherwise contribute to the moisture inside the basement or crawlSpace.

When choosing a sealing concrete, concrete products, shall not be used on a coating. These are known for, pushed from the walls over time, both the pressure and humidity build efflorescence behind the trim. Instead of this, it is very important to find an exfoliating product, which is in his seal the concrete from sticking deep into the pores, a solid barrier that prevents moisture from without through the long-term bubble, products and scaling associated with waterproof paint, and others.

Foundation Repair

The main function of a foundation of the house is to the weight of a structure to transfer the underlying soil and rocks. One of the factors that bring about the need for foundation repairs is improper foundation settling. Foundation scheme can devalue structures and make them unsafe. Building on the extensive sound, pressure or improperly awarded fill soils and improper maintenance in and around foundations are some of the major reasons of improper foundation settling.Another reason for the improper foundation settlement is undetected or unsuspected air pockets in the soil under the area of civil engineering. This can result in the cave and compromise the integrity of the foundation.

Common symptoms of a structure need foundation repairs are bulging or cracked walls and doors that do not get it right in the vicinity. Building on expansive soils is the main culprit for foundation settlement. If only part of the foundation done either raised or are cracksformed in the foundation. The exterior signs of improper stock rotation scheme of walls, displaced moldings, cracked bricks and foundation and the separation around doors and windows from the walls. It wouldforced to the ground in a bid to save the strength of these foundations. However, this type of repair is known to be meaningless. Two of the most successful ways to repair foundation plate and the jacking Piering method. Piering is also known as a hydraulic support.

Slab jacking is the process of the mortar with the addition of a plate or bar. This leads to a lifting and restoring of those beams or plate almost its original height, and increases their strength. It should be taken tothat the amount of sand should be perfect, while adding grout.

During Piering are steel posts driven through unstable soil. Lifting jacks are used to concrete slabs, are weakened due to the changes in the underlying soil to stabilize. Steel beams are used in the Piering method because concrete has great compressive strength. Although Piers are able to transfer large downward loads without the help of reinforcing steel, is the cornerstone for the prevention of the pier used in steel,is pulled out or sheared by forces of expansive soils.
