Marble Floor Tiles - For When You Are Tired of Hardwood Flooring

Sometimes it is a good idea to replace the flooring that you currently have. Over the years your floor goes through quite an ordeal. This can leave it looking dull, chipped and damaged and it can be hard to repair. So replacing it is often the best idea and it doesn't have to be as expensive as you think either.

Why Marble Floor Tiles Are Worth Considering

If you are thinking of replacing your flooring then marble floor tiles could be an option worth considering. They are stylish, easy to clean and they come in a variety of designs. For example, the tiles can either be rough or smooth and they often have a pattern on them which can include hand painted designs. Obviously the more complex the pattern, the more expensive the tiles will be, and the pattern which you choose will depend upon the room that you are placing them in.

For example, if you are placing the marble floor tiles in the kitchen you will want a pattern such as leaves or perhaps plain tiles are more your style. In the living room a nice swirl pattern on the tiles could go well. Take you time to know what effect you are after and look around at the options available to you before you make a decision.

You can purchase marble floor tiles from a number of different locations including local hardware department stores and on the internet. You should ideally measure the area where the tiles are going as they are usually sold in square feet and if you do not know what area you need to cover, you will not be able to purchase any.

If you do take a guess and you just purchase a rough number you could really end up regretting it. This is because if you purchase too little tiles and you have to go back to the store, they could very well have sold out of the tiles you purchased. That would mean that you have gaps where the tiling should be and it will mean all your hard work with the other tiles was for nothing. If anything always try and order too many, especially if they are patterned as then at least you have some spare in case the other ones chip or break somehow.

Overall marble floor tiles can be a good alternative to hardwood flooring but you really do need to ensure that you measure the room before purchasing any. They are easy to clean and they can be inexpensive too so they are certainly worth considering when you next look out for new flooring ideas.

How to Seal a Basement Concrete Floor

The floors in a basement are made of concrete. Of course, water and water vapor can get into a basement through the floor and cause mold, mildew and a musty odor to develop. Also, a wet or damp floor will cause any paint to blister and peal. Any carpeting placed on the floor will collect moisture and be damaged. A concrete basement floor can be sealed against water, water vapor and gas transmission.

Sodium Silicate Vapor Impermeable Concrete Sealers

It is best to use a sodium silicate penetrating sealer because it is vapor impermeable on an interior concrete floor. These are better than a surface film sealer because the surface film sealers still let water and water vapor into the concrete. The surface sealers trap the water under them and eventually the pressure exerted on to the surface film causes it to blister and fail.

The sodium silicate penetrating sealer works by soaking into the concrete up to 4 inches. Once inside the concrete, it reacts with the naturally occurring free lime of the concrete. A crystaline structure is formed from this reaction.  This seals the microscopic pores of the concrete floor. After curing the concrete will be hardened and densified. Water and water vapor will remain on the exterior portion of concrete, away from the living space.

Gas and Vapor Transmission

Because the microscopic pores of the concrete are filled, gas and vapors cannot travel through the concrete. They are blocked from migrating from the surrounding soil and into the basement living area.

Stops Efflorescence

The chalky white substance that is sometimes seen on a basement floor is called efflorescence. This is simply the solid salts leaching out or the concrete and being deposited after the water has evaporated. While it is natural for this to happen, this efflorescence will be stopped after using the penetrating concrete sealer.

Penetrating Sodium Silicate Vapor Impermeable Concrete Sealer Advantages

Stops water vapor transmission
Prevents water seepag
Reduces gas and vapor migration
Paintable surface
Appearance remains the same
Hardens the concrete

Easy Application

Application of concrete sealers can be done with a brush or roller. However, most people use a pump up garden spray with a flat fan pattern spray tip. This gives the most even coating of materials. Of course, the basement floor should be clean, dry and free of grease prior to application.

New applications for diamond drilling in the construction industry

Traditionally, diamond drilling has been used in the construction industry to form holes of various sizes and openings in concrete and masonry structures.

The process is regarded as an accurate and cost-effective alternative to techniques such as bursting coarser, often reinstatement after all openings are formed. The diamond drilling of small holes, allowing 6 mm in diameter, anchor bolts and dowel bars are connected to structures. Larger holes, upto 1200 mm in diameter to provide voids to allow the inclusion of utility lines and frames into temporary support structures.

Diamond drilling techniques and equipment are now used for more demanding tasks within the construction industry. Often these unconventional applications are to be borne out particularly difficult places where no alternative facilities or techniques available.

A good example is the use of continuous drilling through soil and clay and concreteand to form channels brick tunnel. This technique is traditionally used to drill through concrete and masonry, with the dismantling barrel continuously expanded, as it ensure exercises in order not to collapse the hole. When you are finished, a solid plastic tube is inserted along the length of the barrel before the removal.

In a recent case study, the contractor had to establish two pipelines tunnel under the foundations of a house to. A current expansion is meant the initial respirationHoles, which naturally ventilated underground rooms in the property was covered follow rising damp.

Two, 7 meters long, holes were drilled 1 meter below the ground from the sub-floor area under the concrete slab of the new extension to the opening to the outside. An important innovation in this process was gutted, the disposal of waste. This is done traditionally in the form of massive concrete pipes, but bored with the mining run through the world, the floor waste that has already been sucked through the barrel with an industrial vacuum cleaner.

The success of these shows that diamond drilling can be in the hands of the specialists diamond drilling companies a flexible and cost effective solution for unusual problems in the construction industry.
