CLEARCOAT APPLICATION Applying your Clear Top Coat What You Need: * Clearcoat (Parts A & B) * 3/8 Nap Roller & Squeegee * Threaded Broom handle * Paint Brush * Painters Tape * Spike Shoes * Latex Protective Gloves * Paint Stick or Jiffy Mixer In this application video, you will be learning how to apply both the waterborne clear coat epoxy and the urethane topcoat. First is the waterborne epoxy clear coat. It is a two component, eco friendly and easy to use thin-mil sealer for your epoxy floor system. This clear coat can be used on your garage floor or in your basement. It's non-flammable, high gloss, chemical resistant and has no odor. This clear coat is not UV resistant and should not be used outdoors. Directly in the sun, the clear coat will discolor and turn yellow. Second is the Urethane Clear coat. It is a clear two component polyurethane floor sealer designed for maximum chemical resistance, abrasion resistance and uv-resistance. It is a flammable liquid and should only be used in a well-ventilated area, NEVER should it be used in a basement or confined space. It works great as a long lasting clearcoat for garages, auto service centers and exterior applications such as porches or sidewalks. The importance of a clear coat is to not only provide chemical and abrasion resistance but also to protect your color chips. Biographical Overview

If ever there was a guitar player who redefined this instrument for anyone who has ever played it before or since, it would be Jimi Hendrix. Jimi's exceptionally creative, powerful, psychedelic licks helped him reach a musical standard that has never been duplicated, and in his four short years as a recording star he established himself as a musical legend without equal. His performances at the Monterrey Pop Festival which established him as a star, and later at Woodstock were some of the most awe-inspiring in the history of live music, and history will remember Jimi Hendrix as one of the most influential albeit enigmatic and mysterious musicians who ever graced the stage.

Jimi Hendrix was born John Allen Hendrix on November 29, 1942 to James (Al) Hendrix and Lucille Jeter in Seattle, Washington. Jimmy's father Al, who would be his primary parental force throughout Jimi's life, was in the Army when Jimi was born. Fearing that Al would go AWOL to go see his newborn son, the army placed Al in the stockade on "general principle" where he stayed for over a month until the army saw fit to release him.

Back in Seattle Jimi's mother Lucille quickly grew tired of being a single parent and virtually abandoned Jimi during his first few years of life. Jimi, then known as Johnny, first lived with Lucille's family, but was then placed with a woman named Mrs. Walls who took Johnny in and cared for him.

Al was finally released from the Army in 1945 when Jimi was three years old. Upon arriving back in the United States, Al regained custody of Johnny and promptly named him James after himself. Originally Jimi was known as "Buster" by his family, but at the age of 6 everyone began calling young James "Jimi" which would stick with him for the rest of his short life. Between the ages of 3 and 6 Al raised Jimi with the assistance of Lucille's Sister Dolores, and Jimi became very close to her children who were being raised in the same home.

When Jimi was 6, his mother briefly came back into Jimi's life when Al and Lucille attempted a reconciliation. Because there was little work in Seattle at the time, Al joined the Merchant Marines, and while he was away Lucille returned to her old carefree lifestyle, and was kicked out of the housing the Hendrix's were residing in for having inappropriate male visitors. Upon his return from the Merchant Marines, Al and the family reunited, and Lucille eventually had another son Leon in 1948, who had Asian features and was clearly not Al Hendrix's son. Lucille eventually had another son Joey by still a different father, and Al eventually divorced Lucille in 1950 as a result of her lack of stability.

Over the next few years Al raised Jimi and Leon with the help of his relatives, and Jimi briefly had another maternal figure "Edna" enter his life, who he grew close to but who was eventually forced to leave the Hendrix home to make room for other relatives. Lucille popped in and out of Jimi's life during his formative years, and would make extravagant promises to Jimi that she would not follow through on. On February 2, 1958, following many years of hard drinking and frivolity, Lucille passed away at the age of 32 which deeply saddened Jimi.

In his teen years Al Hendrix bought Jimi his first electric guitar which Jimi became so attached to that he slept with it on a nightly basis. Jimi was eventually recruited by a man named James Thomas, and Jimi then became a member of James Thomas and the Tomcats. During this same time frame, Jimi, who had grown disinterested in school, dropped out of Garfield High, and also got in trouble for being in a stolen car. Jimi eventually joined the Army during this period, and decided he wanted to be a paratrooper in the Screaming Eagles like his father before him.

Jimi met Billy Cox while in the Army and the two of them had a great deal in common including musical tastes. While in the army they begin to play a little together, and they formed a friendship and partnership that would later be rekindled when Jimi formed the band Band Of Gypsies.

Following his stint in the Army, Jimi moved down south and began playing the "Chitlin" circuit where he used the stage names "Maurice James" and "Jimmie James" and had some success as a guitar player. Jimi would even play backup on a Supremes record, and in 1964 he played with the Isley Brothers who were also very popular at the time. It was during this period when Jimi met Little Richard, who was a bit of a narcissist, and felt that Jimi's guitar playing upstaged him and took the focus off him which he felt was a necessary component of the act.

Jimi eventually split with Little Richard and moved to New York City where he at first had little success. After spending some time in Harlem, Jimi settled into the Greenwich Village neighborhood, where he formed a new band called Jimmy James and the Blue Flames. Jimi's unique improvisational style alienated a number of his fans, while others thought they were witnessing the birth of a genius. One of these people was Chas Chandler, who formerly played base for a band called the Animals who knew when he saw Jimi that he had discovered an amazing new talent. Chas convinced Jimi that he would have more success in England than in the United States, and in 1966 Jimi packed his bags and left the US to live in London.

While in London Jimi met Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding, and the three of them formed the band The Jimi Hendrix Experience and begin touring around England. Jimi dazzled the English crowd, who were alternately shocked and amazed by Jimi, and he was described in the English papers as "The Wild Man of Borneo" which was a kind of racial slur against Jimi's heritage. The group was very successful, and their first album Are You Experienced produced the songs Hey Joe and Purple Haze which were both big hits on the English rock charts.

Jimi's breakthrough performance came upon his return to the Unites States at the Monterrey Pop Festival where his use of distortion and feedback on the guitar helped him create a sound previously unheard by American audiences. With the crowd already in a frenzy over his performance, Jimi set his guitar on fire at the end of his set, which further electrified the crowd and created a buzz about Jimi Hendrix that would propel him to the top of the music world.

One important ally Jimi made during this time was Brian Jones from the Rolling Stones, who introduced Jimi at Monterrey and was one of Jim's first important fans in the world of music. Following his performance at Monterrey, Brian introduced to Jimi to a lot of important people in California, which culminated in The Jimi Hendrix Experience being signed to go on tour with the Monkees who were one of the top drawing bands in the world at this time.

Jimi's wild style and sexually explicit actions on stage were not well suited to the Monkees crowd, and soon this tour dissolved and The Jimi Hendrix Experience began touring on their own. Over the next two years the band became hugely successful, and in addition to Hey Joe and Purple Haze, produced songs such as Castles Made of Sand, and Bob Dylan's All Along the Watchtower, which were all big hits for the band. The band eventually produced three hit albums, Are You Experienced, Axis: Bold as Love, and Electric Ladyland which all were huge successes. The band was not without its difficulties however, as Jimi and Noel Redding had difficulties agreeing on several issues related to the band, and in the summer of 1969 the band broke up despite the fact that they were at the peak of their commercial success.

Some speculated that Jimi broke up The Jimi Hendrix Experience because both of his bandmates were white, and that he was receiving pressure from the Black Panthers to make a statement about Black solidarity. Although Jimi did have an association with the Panthers in the 1960's, he used the standard "creative differences" approach to explain the band's breakup. But in any case it was apparent that he was hurt by all of the negative press he received following this incident.

Following the breakup of The Jimi Hendrix Experience Jimi began heavily using drugs, and a major turning point came in his life when he was arrested on May 3, 1969 at the Toronto airport for possession of Heroin and Marijuana. Jimi adamantly claimed the drugs were not his, but was rightfully disturbed at the prospect of facing seven years in prison, and thought a great deal about his legacy following his arrest. Jimi was eventually cleared of these charges, but still faced a great deal of inner turmoil as a result of this experience.

In the summer of that year, Jimi put together a group of musicians to play with him at Woodstock, and his performance there was one that helped cement his legend as one of the truly inspired live performers in the history of music. His Star-Spangled Banner on guitar was a huge hit with the fans, and would later become one of the featured scenes in the Woodstock film recordings that were produced at the festival. Later that year Jimi would also play at England's answer to Woodstock, called The Isle of White Festival, where he also dazzled and amazed his English fans, many of who had been with him from the beginning.

At the end of his life, Jimi reunited with his old army buddy Billy Cox, and they formed the Band of Gypsies, which would be Jimi's final group. This group had some success, but Jimi was beginning to become fatigued from years of working almost constantly, his continuing drug use, and the anxiety he felt arising from battles with his management, and earnings in the millions that he could not account for.

In September of that year, as the group was touring Europe, Jimi Hendrix was found dead on his hotel room floor as a result of an overdose of sleeping pills that caused him to choke on his own vomit. Jimi's death was highly controversial however, as some claim he was mishandled by paramedics which caused him to eventually suffocate on the way to the hospital. Jimi's death has been thoroughly investigated and researched, and despite all of the claims, a coroner's report confirms that Jimi had been dead for some time when he was eventually found on the morning of September 18th.

The legacy of Jimi Hendrix endures, and many still consider him to be the most unique guitar player that ever lived. His estate has made millions of dollars following his death, most of which was originally hidden from his father by unscrupulous managers of Jimi's affairs. Al Hendrix and his family eventually won back Jimi's legacy with the help of Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, and Allen would eventually go on to build a Jimi Hendrix museum called the Experience Music project, which is a major tourist attraction in Seattle Washington.
Analysis
Gender Role Preparation perceived through Gender Guiding Lines and Role Models

Though his interactions with his father, Jimi learned the values of hard work and perseverance that would guide him throughout his life and career. Although Jimi was occasionally portrayed as a spaced-out wild man under the influence of LSD, he was in fact an extremely hard worker who produced an amazing amount of material in his short career.

Jimi's father also instilled in Jimi the value of perseverance. Through all of his struggles with his wife Lucille, job difficulties, prejudice, etc, Al Hendrix continued to soldier on and raise his boy Jimi, and this lesson was not lost on his young son. This value of perseverance was so strong in Jimi that he practiced his guitar so often and so much that he eventually became a virtuoso. With no ability to read music and no real training, Jimi still managed to teach himself to play the guitar with his right hand despite the fact that he was born left-handed. All of these obstacles must have made the guitar very difficult for Jimi to learn, but through watching his father Jimi learned a man never gives up, and he therefore continued to work tirelessly at learning to play his guitar.

Jimi's female gender guiding line was much more complex. Although Jimi loved his mother, she disappeared often in his life, and Jimi was well aware of her infidelities towards his father. Later in his life Jimi's interactions with women appeared to be unstable, and his fear of commitment with women may very well have arisen from watching his mother's irresponsible behavior.

Jimi's mistrust of women is interesting to consider with regard to one of the women he was the closest to named Devon Wilson. Devon was a former prostitute, heavy drug user, and party girl who had also been romantically linked to Mick Jagger during the late 1960's. Devon lived with Jimi at his New Your apartment, handled many of Jimi's affairs, and was even the subject of one of Jimi's songs called Dolly Dagger. Like Jimi's mother Lucille, Devon would often disappear for days at a time and then come back when she was done with her extended binge. The fact that, despite Jimi's access to so many women, he trusted a clearly irresponsible woman like Devon Wilson to get closest to him, seems to suggest that he may have chosen her because her behavior was so much like his mother's growing up.
Interpersonal Style perceived through Experience of Family Atmosphere

On the subject of Jimi's mother, she and Al fought often while Jimi was growing up, and the Hendrix household was often filled with storm and strife when Lucille was around. Watching his mother and father fight so often appeared to affect Jimi's own relationships with women, as he was on several occasions verbally and even physically violent with women during periods of confrontation.

Jimi also lived in a number of different homes and places growing up, and in this capacity learned not to get too close to people as they may abandon you at any time. One poignant story Jimi himself related involved meeting his father for the first time at the age of three and taking the train from Berkeley to Seattle. Jimi recalled how much he wanted to return to the only "family" he had ever really known, and how odd it was to be taken on a train by some strange man he had never met. This sense of instability was reinforced often throughout Jimi's life, as a number of people would be significant in his life for a couple of years and then simply disappear, and this appears to have affected Jimi's ability to trust and get close to people.

Because Jimi was unable to achieve a sense of stability, he developed a shy and introverted personality that caused him a great deal of loneliness. Jimi dealt with painful feelings through artistic expression, and the ultimate capacity of his talent may have been a reflection of the intensity of his painful feelings.
Personal Code of Conduct Perceived through Acceptance / Rejection of Family Values

The family values in the Hendrix household involved obedience to authority and a healthy respect for one's elders, and although Jimi had respect for his father, he came to distrust authority in his own life. There are many different versions of Jimi's life with Al Hendrix, many of which paint a picture of a very unhappy home life where Al constantly reminded his children of the sacrifices he had to make for his children. In Al's own autobiography My Son Jimmy (1999) he talked about how Jimi used to escape responsibility for his actions by blaming misdeeds on an imaginary friend named "Sessy" who Jimmy would evoke when he felt he had disappointed Al. It certainly must have been difficult for Al to raise Jimi by himself, and given the economic climate in Seattle at that time, there's no doubt that Al must have had to make some great sacrifices for Jimi. Perhaps Jimi's creation of an imaginary friend was a psychological defense against Al's disappointment, which seemed to be yet another factor in Jimi's unhappy childhood.

Another family value that Jimi seemed to reject concerned the family's views on religion. Although Jimi was raised by a church-going family who believed in worship, Jimi came to believe that his music was a form of great spiritual expression. Jimi rejected the stifling versions of Christianity he learned as a young man, and instead felt music was the way he could connect to the mystical and spiritual side of life.

Music also offered an escape for Jimi from his problems, and was certainly a positive adaptation for him to an unhappy childhood. Jimi often described how music would compose itself in his head, and his unparalleled talent in music may have been a result of this intense desire to escape his emotionally painful cognitions.
Perspective on the World perceived through Experience of Psychological Birth Order

As the first born son in the Hendrix household and the only son sired by his father Al, Jimi developed a sense that he was particularly special when he was a young man. Although Jimi's younger brother Leon spent a great deal of time with Jimi and his father growing up, he was also often shipped to another family during difficult times. The fact that Jimi was always the one that remained with his father must have made him feel like the "chosen" one much of the time, and he appeared to develop a sense that he was something special. This is not an uncommon reaction from a first born child, as they often receive more attention than their siblings do when they are born, as they become literally the center of their parent's universe.

For Jimi this situation did not unfold exactly like this, as his first three years were filled with a great deal of moving around that must have confused and frightened him at such a fragile age. The two women that adopted Jimi in these years both referred to his "specialness" however, so one can assume this was something he felt that was further reinforced when Al eventually came and got him following his release from the Army.

Jimi's biographers (Hendrix 1999) discuss how it was clear to Jimi that his younger brother Leon had a different father than him, and although Al certainly loved and cared for Leon, he must have felt some resentment from having to raise another man's child. Jimi therefore was the "favorite" growing up, and developed a sense of his own uniqueness that instilled in him a great deal of confidence in his abilities. This confidence was especially relevant in the early stages of Jimi's career, where audiences often disliked and were unable to understand his unique style of music. Although many artists would have become discouraged in this situation, Jimi was convinced of his own talent, and much of this resolve appears to have its roots in Jimi's early childhood experiences.
Self Assessment Perceived through Genetic Possibilities

Jimi Hendrix came from a talented family with a long history of performing in front of groups. Jimi's grandmother was an entertainer who traveled and worked as a singer and performer before her son Al was born, and even prior to this generation music was a strong part of the Hendrix tradition. Jimi's father Al and his uncle Leon both showed musical talent at a very young age, and both of them could play the piano, sing, and also dance at a young age, and often did so growing up. Jimi therefore appeared to have a predisposition to music that was inherited from the talented Hendrix family.

Jimi developed a stutter at a young age however, and was not confident as a singer and a dancer like the rest of his family. Therefore when Jimi did find a musical instrument to play, it appears that he compensated for his stutter by practicing a great deal on the guitar in an attempt to belong with his otherwise musical family.

Jimi also felt a strong identification with his family's Cherokee heritage. The extent of Jimi's Indian blood has been misrepresented often in several biographies that mention the subject. Jimi's father Al (Hendrix 1999) eventually clarified that Jimi's great grandmother was a full-blooded Cherokee, but Jimi did feel a strong identification with this portion of his ancestry. Al Hendrix explained that when Jimi and the other children played games like Cowboys and Indians when Jimi was a kid, Jimi always wanted to be the Indian as it helped link him with a part of his Heritage. Jimi created a great deal of art as a child that depicted the Indians conquering the cavalry, and he even discussed later as an adult how he felt a sense of power that came from his Indian blood.

In considering this idea it is fascinating to examine the lyrics from one of Jimi's big hits, Castles Made of Sand-

"A little Indian brave who before he was ten, played war games in The woods with his Indian friends, and he built a dream that when he Grew up, he would be a fearless warrior Indian Chief. Many moons passed and more the dream grew strong, until tomorrow He would sing his first war song,
And fight his first battle, but something went wrong,
Surprise attack killed him in his sleep that night"

Reading the lyrics to this song which Jimi wrote, one can't help but wonder how much it reflected both Jimi's dreams as well as his disappointments. In many ways this song demonstrated the conditions of Jimi's life, as, despite having "conquered" the music world, he still was very anxious about his life circumstances as a result of his arrest and also the large amounts of money he was missing. Much like the little Indian in the story, Jimi had been blindsided by events in his life, and this song seems to reveal the depths of his unhappiness.
Openings for Advancement perceived through Environmental Opportunities

One important adaptation Jimi made as a young man concerned the first guitar he ever received which Al purchased for Jimi for the price of 5 dollars. Jimi, who was born left-handed but learned to do most things right-handed, changed the strings around on this right-handed guitar and instead played it left-handed which was an adaptation that would eventually have a direct impact on his future musical genius. Jimi learned that by manipulating the instrument like this he could get different sounds out of it, and later as an adult he played his guitars both upside down and backwards which helped him carve out his own unique sound that no one else was readily able to replicate. Because Jimi made this adaptation at such a young age and practiced so excessively, his technique became something that was uniquely his.

Another early experience that shaped the young Jimi Hendrix was seeing an Elvis Presley concert while he was growing up in Seattle. Jimi became fascinated by Elvis's showmanship, and much of his early artwork produced flattering pictures of the King. Although Jimi was somewhat shy throughout his life, on stage he truly had no inhibitions, and at least some of this he learned from watching Elvis when he was a young man. The impact of seeing Elvis live seemed to awaken in Jimi a sense of the heights a person could reach through playing music, and this rare opportunity was for Jimi a tipping point that helped give birth to his eventual persona as a stage performer.
Range of Social Interest perceived through Other Particularities

One barometer of a person's mental health can be observed by examining their relationships and interest in the welfare of other human beings. Jimi Hendrix, who appeared to have abandonment issues related to his childhood, and who had also been betrayed by several business associates, therefore seemed to have trouble developing a profound sense of social interest. Although Jimi was often approached about social causes, he seemed to be most comfortable letting his music do his talking for him, and didn't feel as comfortable as an advocate and leader to promote social change as many of his 60's counterparts.

In this capacity it is interesting to consider Jimi's relationship with the Black Panthers as well as the larger issue of racism in the life of Jimi Hendrix. Growing up Jimi watched his father experience a great deal of racism related to finding jobs, etc. and this must have affected the young Jimi a great deal, as a lot of his early artwork depicts struggles for equality and justice. Jimi also experienced racism following his release from the Army when he went to play the "Chitlin" circuit in the Southern United States, where there was clearly different treatment for white and black musicians.

Jimi was eventually discovered a white man Chas Chandler, and found fame and acceptance with two white musicians who were of course Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell. Although Jimi found success in the UK with these two men, he was still mocked by the British papers as "the wild man of Borneo" and with other racial epitaphs that appeared to alternatively mock and praise Jimi. Jimi eventually became known for playing "white" music by some of the more extremist black national groups in the United States, and many speculate it was the Black Panthers who pushed Jimi into eventually disbanding the Jimi Hendrix experience to form an all-Black band. Although there are widely varying accounts as to Jimi's relationship with the Panthers, it seems clear that Jimi was heavily conflicted about the issue of race.

In terms of social interest, Jimi's use of escapism through music is also interesting to examine. Music appeared to be the one thing that let him escape painful thoughts and feelings, and it was only when he had to quit playing and deal with other human beings when he seemed to be unhappy. People certainly took terrible advantage of Jimi throughout his life, as he died with only 21,000 thousand dollars in his banking account as a result of people pilfering millions from him over the course of his career. Jimi's lack of social interest therefore appeared to be based on very real experiences with people in the world, as his early home life and professional career were filled with repeated abandonment, disappointments, and betrayals from those that he thought he could depend on.

Jimi also had a great deal of narcissism, much of which contributed to the development of his music, which was also a defining characteristic of his personality. Many people who had experienced the kind of rejection Jimi had at the beginning of his career would have simply returned to playing mainstream music, but Jimi truly believed that his music was something special despite the negative reinforcement he had received from the New York crowds. A narcissist will often believe his or her own way is not only special and unique, but also better than the way anyone else is doing it, and this was very much demonstrated by Jimi's creation of his own music.

Although narcissism is often malignant, many exceptionally talented people demonstrate high levels of this trait in their dealings with others, which was certainly true in the case of Jimi Hendrix. When someone disagrees with or challenges someone who is malignantly narcissistic, their reaction may be extreme irritation, and Jimi's interpersonal relationships seemed to represent this idea. His habitually abusive behavior towards women showed Jimi had a very low tolerance for frustration, and when others, and particularly women disagreed with him, his response to this frustration was very often physical violence.

Jimi's violence towards women may have also arisen in part from his interactions with his mother Lucille, as Jimi never seemed to develop a healthy respect for women throughout his life. His lack of a consistent feminine presence and maternal gender guiding line growing up must have created some anger in Jimi, and hearing his father's descriptions of his mother's life may have also contributed to this dynamic.

Jimi's life was therefore empty of the kind of social interest in others that many felt was a larger part of the idealism of the 1960's. Although Jimi participated in some of the causes and issues of his times, his involvement was often at the recommendation of those around him. Jimi's lack of trust in other people, which had its roots in childhood patterns, was reinforced often throughout his life, and Jimi overcompensated for his lack of interest in others by developing a truly awe-striking ability that allowed him to escape from the world. Although this talent was extraordinary, it seemed to be in part created through the sublimation of his personal pain, and this left Jimi without a path other than music in which to actively experience joy in his life. Jimi's gift of music to the world was and is a lasting contribution that influenced thousands of musicians both before and after him, but was also in many ways a reaction to a troubled history, and this was the sadness and irony of this truly unique musician.

We took Lincoln on the lengthy three hour journey there but he was not allowed inside the castle. Instead we had to leave him in a grassy area outside the castle walls containing a few small doghouses with chains attached and one large cage made of concrete and steel. Though we had woken up to rain, by this time the sky was clearing and the day was being warmed by the early afternoon sun so the dog spot was pleasant enough. However I chose to put him in the cage for the safety of any dog or small child that could be mistaken for one that may cross his path in our absence. Stain on Railing--Just Spray and Wipe

Just remember my advice before you start this job of using opaque, semi-opaque or transparent stain. Don't do it. You will have turned wood that didn't do anything to you into a maintenance item. Weathered gray wood is nature's way of staining and it will fit into most landscape plans.

But, I know most of you want to have some reddish or brown color; so stain away, however wait at least a year on new deck installations, wood that is green will not hold the stain.

As you wipe the sweat off your brow just as you finish your deck floor, you think maybe a cold beer then a cold shower, Wonderful! But wait, you still have all the hand rails and all those upright balusters to stain as well.

Those balusters are going to be a pain. They are small and close together and they have all those nooks and crannies. Try staining a cranny for for the whole deck. It gets tiresome and boring and it takes a lot of time.

Not if you follow my simple instructions;

Take old "Windex bottle" or some bottle with spray applicator, clean well and put your stain in bottle. Now just spray your stain on balusters and wipe down with a rag. If you want to get fancy, get one of those painting gloves and stain all those balusters as fast as you can spray and wipe.

No dipping, no brushing, just spray and wipe. Pop the top on that cold one, we are done with this job.!

Most tiling jobs start with a well-prepared subfloor. As you learn more about how to lay ceramic floor tile, you will find out about the three general types of floors that tile installers may often work with. Such information will help you alot along the way.

Generally, you will encounter three types of subfloors: Vinyl, plywood, and the concrete floors. Installing ceramic tile directly to vinyl or linoleum floors (or subfloor surfaces) should be avoided at all cost. Your vinyl or linoleum flooring may contain asbestos fibers and should be tested first before you try removing it. If your vinyl floor covering does not contain asbestos fibers, a general recommendation on how to lay ceramic floor tile is to rough-sand, or scarify, the vinyl floor surface to provide your tiling mortar a better grip. Use a latex modified thinset mortar to install your ceramic tiles over your vinyl subfloor.

Working over plywood subfloors can be very tricky, as well. Like vinyl floor surfaces, it is not advisable to install your ceramic tiles directly on to your plywood floor surface. Plywood flooring usually has a smooth surface, and easily warps when exposed to heat or moisture. Be sure that the wood is at least 1 and 1/8 inches thick and is reinforced and supported by an equally strong underlayment. Otherwise, your ceramic tiles will dislodge easily, or worse, break and need replacing. Plywood panel edges must be installed about one-fourth of an inch away from perimeter walls and door jambs, and fixtures and cabinetry. These are expansion gaps and should not be bridged with tiling mortar. To prevent moisture from damaging the plywood subfloor, use a waterproofing sealant or caulk over your plywood subsurface.

Concrete floors are the most ideal subfloor surface to work with. But before you start tiling over the subfloor surface, it must be cleaned thoroughly. Paint, adhesives, fillers or levelers, sealers, and chemically treated cement substrates are unsuitable surfaces fpr ceramic tile installations. Remove these by using non-chemical methods. For dust and other debris, sweep and then mop your concrete subfloor surface using only clean water. Allow the surface completely before you start working on it. Generally, smooth concrete surfaces are difficult to work with as the tiling mortar may not grip and hold. Consequently, your ceramic floor tiles may be in danger in dislodging. Smooth concrete surfaces must be rough sanded, scarified, or etched to allow the tiling mortar some grip.

Another important aspect about how to lay ceramic floor tile is to always check for cracks and debris. Repair as many of the cracks as you can. If you see cracks that are too large to repair, replace the floor section where they are found with new concrete. Concrete may need to set (or dry) for at least twenty-four hours before you can start tiling over it. Lastly, get out your carpenter's level and check for any dips or humps on the concrete subfloor surface. If you find any, you may use a cement-based floor level to fill in the dips and smoothen over the humps. This will help to keep your finished ceramic tile floor level and minimize dislodging, or tile breakage.

Let it dry or set properly. This is the key step you need to keep in mind about how to lay ceramic floor tile flooring. There are three setting periods: The first is right after you have placed your ceramic tiles with thin set mortar and bonded them to your subfloor. The second is after after putting in your tiling grout (before putting on the sealant). These setting periods last overnight, at the very least, to twenty-four hours, at the most. Your sealant has dried, you are done!

So when you work on your own ceramic tile project, always remember how to lay ceramic floor tile properly by knowing how to work with your subfloor surfaces. Learning how to lay ceramic floor tile is also both a great way both to learn a new hobby, and a home improvement skill. Latex molds are very popular because they're so easy to use. As soon as it comes out of the container, it's ready to go. This is its main advantage. One problem with latex molds, however, is that they do sometimes shrink a little in size. Making a latex mold can also take a fair bit of time. False ceilings are used to cover huge distances or head rooms in a house. They can also be used to house appliances like extractors or air conditioners within that space. Other uses are housing lighting and alarm systems in a room. Different materials can be used to make this ceilings. mostly gypsum, timber or aluminum can be used as they are easy to mould into different shapes and sizes. Materials used should be light weight and also have good aesthetics.

A timber false ceiling can made by using tongue and groove or railings hanged from the concrete ceiling. When the beams in a concrete slab over hang down wards into a room, they can be covered using this method. The false ceiling will give a flat surface below the concrete soffits. The difference is that the original ceiling is still in place. This system is used for sound acoustics in restaurants within a building where loud music is to be played on stage.

The procedure starts by measuring the required headroom which should be a minimum of nine feet. This is measured from the finished floor level. Timber pieces of four by three inches are nailed along the wall surface in the lounge. The four inch side is put upright to give the point of anchoring the pieces that will span across the room. At the center of the room, metal hangers are fixed or screwed into the concrete soffits at a spacing of two feet.

Wrought timber of two by three inches is then fixed to the brandering and hangers. This is done across the shorter span of the lounge. The spacing is between them is six inches. The hangers are screwed into the timber. This timber can be hard or soft wood. It can also be shaped to give good aesthetics. After the frame work is complete, painting or varnishing is done. A trap door is done to allow for fittings like lights and air conditioners to be fixed.

2006-07 Deck we built around the pool. This deck was built with Blood, Sweat, and Beers! It took us a whole summer of weekends to build this, plus part of the following summers' weekends. It looks easier than it is. It seemed like every pier, post, beam, floor joist, floor plank, had an angle cut, or in some way, you had to take into consideration the pool in the middle of the deck. I have no more hair to pull out. I think we probably could have built this deck in much less than half the time it took, if it didn't have a pool in the middle of it. And yes, we got a building permit! And it's a good thing we did because the building inspector showed up before we got it all finished. It passed the final inspection ! Now all we need is a keg of beer and some girls in bikinis and we'll be good to go!

Window Replacement - Rotten Wood - Corrales

When we opened up the walls on this house for the window replacement, we discovered that some areas of the home, under the windows, had significant water damage due to water intrusion that had resulted from the initial window installation and the improper stucco application. The first part of this Video deals with the proper installation of one of our new windows while the second portion of this video deals with the rotten wood that we discovered under the glass block window area. We also demonstrate some termite damage that we discovered under one of the windows. Moisture (entering the window sill area) plus food (wood) equated in termites. Very bad thing, but at least it is all addressable and fixable. The Homeowner/Builder had no idea what to look for as these windows were being replaced so it's not their fault, the fault lies with the person who installed the windows for doing such a shoddy job. Here, You can see the extent of the rotten wood under the glass block window that was installed in a dry area of the Master Bathroom. Just a horrible installation, no other way to describe it ... All of the water intrusion was occurring from the exterior wall of the home. We removed a portion of the rotted sill, studs and exterior sheathing and repaired those areas properly with new lumber and materials. We also removed the glass block and replaced it wit a new Pella window, right side fixed and left side operable. There will never again be any exterior water intrusion that ...

Epoxy coatings are great flooring alternatives for commercial, industrial, and residential floors. With many options to choose from and the longevity of the floor is almost unbeatable. Industrial epoxy floor coatings will last from 15 to 30+ years depending on the application you choose. Cost can range anywhere from $2.00 to $10.00 a square foot.

I have been doing epoxy floor coatings for over five years now and we are seeing more and more customers having there garage floors coated and turning them into living space. No more ugly grey concrete with oil stains all over it. We see big screen TV's installed in garages and bars on wheels that can be rolled out into the center of the garage. Football games, nascar, baseball etc... More and more people are turning there garage into living space. Most garage floors are anywhere from 400 to 800 sqft and bigger and that is like adding another room onto your house but it is already there, when the party is over pull your vehicle in and its like a showroom.

Epoxy coatings are not only good for garage floors they are great for basement floors also, If you have a basement that has water problems epoxy flooring is perfect. Epoxy is waterproof, no more pulling up carpet and replacing it every time it rains, just pull out the shop vac and vacuum it up or mop it and problem solved. Epoxy flooring is mold and mildew resistant and allergen free, and did I mention chemical and stain resistant and easy to clean.

Not all epoxy is created equal, We use 100% solids epoxy and we offer a five year guarantee with all our floors. the big chain store epoxy have fillers in them and they will peel or flake off in 6 months to a year. So when looking for epoxy look for 100% solids you will pay a little more for it but it is well worth the money spent.

Floor preparation is everything, the pores in the concrete need to be opened up before the coating is applied. floor preparation begins with removing oil stains and sealers or any other contaminates epoxy will not adhere to oil or other contaminates. the second step is grinding the top surface of the floor with a diamond grinder or a shot blaster to open up the pores. acid etching does not open the pores enough. You will also need a good vacuum because the dust is terrible and very dangerous to breath.The third step after the pores are opened is to clean the concrete with a vacuum and a leaf blower works great, you need to get the dust off the floor. Water is not a good idea unless you are going to let the floor dry for some time before coating as it will make the epoxy turn white. If you floor has cracks this is a good time to do any repairs and I will get into that later. Now your ready for epoxy and we recommend that you follow the manufactures directions on application techniques if you are going to do this yourself.

Cracks can be repaired with a couple different methods depending on how bad the cracks are. Rule of thumb is that if you can fit a credit card into the crack it should be repaired. We start by chasing out the crack with a crack chaser blade to open up the crack and to remove any loose aggregate. clean the crack out real good with compressed air and your ready to repair. There are numerous epoxy's for crack repair on the market. we use a epoxy sand mix to repair our cracks but you should follow your manufacturers recommendations. After the epoxy dries grind the repaired area flat and clean it and your ready to coat.

single broadcast- one coat of epoxy with flake or quartz broadcast into the epoxy with a uv resistant top coat.

double broadcast- one coat of epoxy with a flake or quartz broadcast into the epoxy, a second coat of epoxy applied over the top of the first coat with a flake or quartz broadcast into it for a second time. A uv resistant top coat applied over the top

Epoxy neet coat or solid color system- usually two coats of a solid color epoxy applied at 10 mils thick per coat.mainly used in industrial applications as this system is the lowest cost with the same durability.

Epoxy Quartz- colored quartz sand is broadcast into the base coat and usually requires a double broadcast of quartz. this is one of the most durable floors because of the quartz. excellent floor for restaurant kitchens, porches and more.

Epoxy flake- a base coat of epoxy with a vinyl chip broadcast into the epoxy with a uv resistant top coat. garage and basement flooring and many other applications. single or double broadcast systems available.

Metallic epoxy- A prime coat of 100% solids epoxy with a top coat of metallic epoxy can be coated with a urethane. used for decorative applications

Before tackling the question certain measures must be taken. First, you have to make sure the room has proper ventilation to prevent irritation to your eyes and nasal passageways. HD PLEASE!!! READ PLEASE!!! FINALLY!!! I am finished with this AMV. 13 hours, two packs of oreos and a pot of coffee laterI finished my full length Black Star/Tsubaki AMV. I didnt like how the ending turned out in the video. To me, the whole video got lost in the middle of the second chorus. I love the first half, but the rest of it, seemed alittle dull and again, lost. The song doesnt fit them, putting the meaning of the song into consideration. However, I love the song and I love these two characters. And I wanted to use a song that hasnt been used yet for these two characters. I put the advice I received in What Have You Done Now? AMV into this video. Not overlapping clips too much, stuffing too many clips together, speeding up the clips and etc. It was easy, considering there wasnt a lot of Black Star Clips, but trying to make it fit with the song wasnt easy. So I am all about running the rain water off of the roof of my garage down into a pond up against the side of my house, this will be baller. What I want to create is a simple above ground pond for my plants and different species of goldfish that I am trying to breed. I think keeping them behind the house in 24 inch tall cinderblock ponds is going to be the way to go. I have to give my man Kevin props for this idea. As you know, I am big on having a plan, so any advice or ideas you have I am all for. I have never worked with concrete before but I am thinking I am going to have to use it to make it level, this shouldn't be too bad, but traveling to the unknown is kind nervous, but hell, I put up two garden ponds and the wife didn't know, so how tough can it be? How to Stain a Concrete Floor

If you want a beautiful and trendy coffeehouse look in your kitchen, living room, or even a bedroom, staining your concrete floor is a bold way to achieve it. The problem is that it is a specialized process that few people have done themselves, so it's tough to get good advice on how to stain a concrete floor correctly.

If you've seen a stained concrete floor you like, take a picture of it and take it to your local home improvement store or paint store. This will provide a good start. There are different types of staining processes, but this article will cover the acid stain and sealing process.

The first step is to remove any old carpet and make sure you're happy with the shape the concrete is in. Builders often make marks on concrete slabs knowing they will be covered up, and carpet installers often nail down tack strips or glue down padding that can leave permanent marks on the concrete. It is possible to remove most of these markings, but there will likely be imperfections showing through the finished floor. The beauty of stained concrete is that the variegated finish blends well with imperfections, so don't think that just because your floor has issues, you can't stain it.

Next, remove markings and glue by scraping or with lacquer thinner or a commercial graffiti remover. This can take time, but is well worth the effort. Keep in mind that any solvent-based products will have to be washed off using a degreasing solution (like TSP) that you can purchase at a home improvement store. Acid stains must be applied to oil- and solvent-free surfaces, or they won't react with the concrete.

Now fill any cracks or pits in the concrete with a quick-setting concrete patch. Level it out with a trowel or putty knife and smooth it with a wet sponge. If necessary, sand the patched area lightly after it sets to remove any residue and blend the patched surface with the surrounding area.

You may want to mask walls from overspray at this point. If you've used any solvent-based cleaning products, wash the surface with a degreasing solution and rinse thoroughly. Use a wet-vac or sponge mop to remove extra water if necessary.

You're finally ready for your acid stain treatment. Follow the directions of the manufacturer, but usually this entails pouring the acid into a plastic pressure sprayer. Dampen the concrete floor lightly and start spraying the stain over the concrete, working your way from the far corner of the room to the door so you don't have to step on completed areas. It's okay to let the stain pool into the low spots of the concrete; this will give the finish a beautiful leather-like look.

The acid in the stain will react with the concrete and you should see some bubbling as you apply the stain. You can typically let the stain dry for 8 to 24 hours to let it have the greatest affect, then scrub it off with a solution of baking soda and water to neutralize the acid. Rinse the floor thoroughly, removing the water with a wet-vac or sponge mop as required.

You'll notice that the floor looked a lot better wet. Once the floor is complete dry, which may take a day or two with fans on it, you need to apply a sealer to bring back the "wet-look" of the floor. Water based sealer is cheaper and works great if you don't want a high-gloss finish. If you want gloss, pay the extra money for a solvent-based concrete floor sealer. Do not, under any circumstance, apply the water-based sealer first, then change your mind and switch to a solvent-based product. Even if the water-based product is completely dry, the solvent-based sealer won't adhere as well and you'll have problems with it pealing up.

In our opinion, the solvent-based glossy sealer looks dramatically better and is worth the extra money to do it right. The sealer gets applied with a brush around the edges and a roller over the rest of the floor. You may apply a second coat if you wish, then you are finished. You should have a beautiful acid-stained concrete floor!

while waiting for a 4:51pm train to GCT i went buffing yesterday for 2 hours before my train. Outta the blue i hear diesel locos coming from NY, then i saw the GP35R nose and pressed record after setting up on the engineer call box at the end of the platform. I had no idea i'd catch something this rare at 4pm on a saturday. i thought originally they were going on the New Canaan line cuz it was closed all weekend for track work. btw that P32 push pull set flying through stamford was another RARE catch, it just so happened to come when the lite power was backing up :P anyways i got vid of basiclly the whole power flip (even an engineer hanging out an M4 talking with the work crew & the crew switching to from the GP35R to the BL20) enjoy the vid :D

By using a layering process with spray bottles you can easily create incredible faux rock painting effects. There is a little more to it than simply spraying paint onto whatever it is you are painting - to get a realistic faux granite finish there are a few key steps to remember:

1) Water down your paints
2) Choose complimentary colors
3) Allow time to dry between layers
4) Always finish with black

If you follow these four steps you are sure to create realistic looking granite colors. Once you have mastered this art of faux rock painting you will be amazed at how realistic you can make a two dimensional surface like a wall or a concrete floor - just think of the 3-D results like making artificial rocks with concrete.

Water Down Your Paints
The type of sprayer you use will depend largely on your budget, but for most people trying their hand at faux granite painting would likely use regular hand held spray bottles like normally used for water. There are available everywhere and relatively cheap. The down side of these sprayers compared to more expensive pressurized models is their inclination to clog or spray in less desirable splotches as opposed to a fine mist which is preferred.

By watering down the water based paints you are using you can get most sprayers to pump them. A mix of 3 parts water to 1 part paint as the minimum is a good starting point for trying your mixture. Practice adjusting the stream of your paint into a bucket to get as fine a mist as possible before painting your subject matter.

Choose Complimentary Colors
To create a realistic looking faux rock pain finish you need to decide which color you want your subject to be overall. This is usually gray, red, light brown and dark brown which are the most common faux rock color choices. If you were to choose light brown as the color for your rock you will need to have at least two or three different shades of brown to use. Since you want a light brown coloured rock you would start with the light brown applying a heavy misting layer to cover at least 80% of the total surface.

Be sure not to have the paint drip or run. You can apply two coats of the same color one after another to avoid the paint running. Once the main base layer has been applied the remaining layers are all painted in a much lighter - misting fashion.

In addition to the light brown, and then a light misting of dark brown, you will want to add two or thee highlighting colors which you will apply sporadically to your subject. These highlighting colors are usually blue, red, yellow, tan, orange, gray and green and are intended to provide inconsistency and depth overall. Not every color goes well together and you must learn and practice to develop a strong feel for color combinations.

Allow Time To Dry Between Layers
By allowing the paint to dry in between layers you can create a much more dynamic finished product where the different colors overlap each other but remain sharp overall. If you add layers when the paint is still wet you will find that the colors will bleed into one another which detracts from the desirable speckled look of a faux granite finish.

Worth noting is that you can use the color bleeding as another artistic tool choosing to blend together colors - especially in the base color stages where you are applying a heavier coat of paint.

Always Finish With Black
If you have one sprayer that works better than all the rest, you should use that sprayer for your black paint. Once you have achieved a color combination that you are happy with and are ready to proceed to the final layer which is a list misting layer of black overall. Some areas you can go slightly heavier on to create an interesting finish, but ultimately the entire surface receives as light of a misting of black as possible.

The goal is to have the black speckles to be as small as possible which will transform a mediocre looking faux granite finish to a magnificent and realistic colour. There are hundreds of different color options and applications for faux granite paint finishes including stamped concrete, artificial rocks, statues, fireplace covers, drywall, decks, stairs, patios and much more.

The best time for concrete waterproofing to take place is whenever the home is first being built. The reason why this is the case is because the outside of the walls are exposed and it is easy to waterproof them at this time. The concrete waterproofing that goes on the outside of your foundation walls is much different than the type that goes on the inside. Typically, a membrane of some sort is spread onto the outside of the wall, such as a tar like substance. Paint an Easy Fake Rug With Stencils

Have you always yearned for a large, beautiful area rug on your hard surface floor but found the prices too cost prohibitive for your momentary budget? Create a "Faux" (fake) rug with paint and stencils that you can be proud to display. It's not only easy, but fun!

Your first order of business is to decide the size of the faux rug you want, the designs that will be used and it's placement on the floor.

Next, choose 1 or two stencils that can be combined (say a central large leaf design and a vine perhaps) or if you are a lover of more contemporary designs, you can simply tape off geometric shapes to create your design.

The type of paint used and surface preparation will depend entirely on the type of floor you are working with. It is best to consult your local paint store for the correct paint types and sealers.

Simply start by making sure the floor is squeaky clean, then tape off a square or rectangle on the floor in the size you want your finished rug to be.

Paint the background color of your choice inside the taped lines and allow the paint to dry.

Tape off a smaller square in the center of your rug design and paint that area a different, but coordinating color to the background color you used overall.

Stencil a large motif in the center. In the area outside of this new square, stencil another design going around the inside edges of your rug design. Another idea would be to use a small stenciled design and stencil an all over, random pattern in varying shades.You can get as creative and elaborate as you wish.

Contemporary designs can be done by randomly taping off squares, rectangles, triangles, or circles over the rug area and painting them coordinating decorating colors in your room. Your interior floors aren't the only place a faux rug can be done. Try one on your front porch, right in the center of your sidewalk or cement patio, or painted the full length of your stairs.

If you have been fearful of trying a mural on your wall, create a "hanging rug" instead! What fun.

This is a fun and creative projects with no limits! Anything you can stencil on a wall can be stenciled on to your floor within your faux rug, so use it as a canvas for designs you really love.

Concrete acid stain causes a chemical reaction by mixing acid, water and inorganic salts. Flooring in interior design trends for 2011 has changed little from those of 2010. The largest overall change has been an increased desire for an industrial look, slightly different from the better-known modern look.

What is an Industrial Look?

The industrial look incorporates more bare floors or the appearance of bare flooring, open spaces and bare pipes or conduits. Wrought iron and chrome play large parts in this look, and bare expanses overlaid with area rugs bring the look home.

Antiques are encouraged in this interior design trend, but avoid going overboard. 'Cutesie' antiques or milk jug and cow plaques don't fit this design intent.

Slightly rusty or rustic appliances, whether actually used or merely decorative, fit the motif well. If included in the décor, clean away the excess rust but don't be in a hurry to paint over it.

What Flooring Fits This Look?

So long as the floor doesn't jump up and claim the attention first, almost any kind will suit. Popular choices include concrete, laminate, rubber and even cork. The latter two help absorb sound, which can be important in any interior design intent that uses bare floors.

Concrete floors are often found in converted factories or warehouses. Industrial from birth, the floor type is strong and long-lasting. Sealed properly, concrete can be uniform or decorative. Some people prefer the uniformity of the original design; others insert geometric, floral or other pictoral accents to the floor.

Rubber provides excellent padding, water resistance and sound buffering. The slight give to the material helps prevent shin splints and eases joint strain common to extended walking on hard floors. Rubber can be used in any room in the Industrial designed house, condominium or loft apartment. Inexpensive and renewable, rubber is also a 'green' element-good for the budget and the environment.

Cork is another 'green' flooring that matches rubber for its low-cost and its renewable source. Naturally water-resistant, cork incorporates pockets of air that lend padding over long-term use. It can be damaged, as any type of floor can be, but with proper care, it can outlast vinyl or ceramic tiling.

Hardwood is popular as well but more costly. Often, a quality hardwood laminate is used instead in a few rooms to differentiate the area from others in open loft plans.

If you use carpet in this look, downplay its color. Lighter shades may show dirt and stains more than darker colors, but the lighter the shade, the more open the area will feel, and that airy environment is a key to successfully incorporating the flooring into the industrial look.

Be sure that your hands are well protected as you combine these chemicals together. Wear overalls too - especially when you are cleaning the garage.

You are also going to need the pressure washer, sponge mop, and some soft cloth for drying up the floor. The air in the garage should circulate freely when you are working inside it to prevent possible suffocation.

Creating a stylish, easy-care bathroom in a small space is a common problem for many people, and particularly for city dwellers, where space is at a premium. The newest bathroom designs are focused entirely on using the most up-to-date technology to meet these needs, with high-tech steel appliances, streamlined ceramics, and tough, durable surfaces. Decorative details are an unnecessary luxury - texture is more important... accentuating the differences between matte and shiny, and rough and smooth surfaces. The contrasts of steel, granite, wood, tiles, and glass create interest enough, combined with tough, industrial materials such as concrete, glass bricks, and studded rubber flooring.

The apartment bathroom is a good place to experiment with color, as the areas to be covered are never huge, and are generally seen for short periods only. Try unusual color combinations used in flat blocks rather than decorative patterns; or keep to cool, clinical white and steel, with small pools of concentrated color provided by towels and accessories.

Creating the Look

Aim for a simple, functional look, with sharp, straight edges contrasted with streamlined curves. If you are starting from scratch, plan the layout carefully for maximum space. You may even consider dispensing with a bath in favor of a roomy showering area with a folding seat.

Door and window frames are ideally plain and boxy, with a flush door and sleek fixtures. If you have a window, consider fitting frosted glass to avoid the necessity for any other window treatment.

Walls are best either tiled or painted in a flat vinyl latex or eggshell finish. Plain white or colored ceramic tiles are inexpensive and suit the look perfectly, as do small mosaic tiles. For a bolder look, use plain tiles in an unusual color - perhaps lilac or lemon. Granite, marble, sandstone, or slate tiles have a suitably apartment-style look, and set up satisfying contrasts with gleaming steel and fluffy soft towels.

For a seriously industrial look, cover the bath panel or cupboard doors in galvanized tin or aluminum; or experiment with metallic paint on woodwork for a similar look - a gunmetal, bronze, or silvery color would change the look of built-in louvered cupboards or an existing vanity unit.

For the floor, choose ceramic tiles, or sealed woodstrip or cork for a warmer feel on bare feet; linoleum or vinyl in plain or marbled effect would suit the look, or investigate tough rubber-studded flooring, which is available in a wide range of colors.

Neutral or strong: latex paint in flat colors - either subtle stone, stark white, or bold combinations.

Wallpapers: imitation stone, paint lookalikes, or strong contemporary designs on limited areas.

Tiles: plain glazed ceramic tiles, white or strongly colored; sheet mosaic tiles in ceramic or glass; granite, sandstone, slate; sealed cork.

WINDOWS

Frosted glass: replace plain glass with milky white, reeded, or other effects.

Blinds: narrow Venetians in metal or wood; plain roller, Roman, or pleated blind; simple eyeletted panel.

Smooth: pale woodstrip; large, plain white or black tiles, stone tiling; linoleum, vinyl, or rubber in plain or semi-plain designs.

Contemporary: simple sculpted shapes in white ceramic or steel; bathtub with granite or wood surround and tiled, flush wood, or sheet metal panel.

Metal or wood: spindly metal chair or small stool; tub-shaped stool doubling as laundry basket, with a reinforced lid that you can sit on.

LIGHTING

High-tech: recessed ceiling spotlights or simple modern central light fixture; plaster or metal wall torcheres; halogen lights in recesses.

ACCESSORIES

Modern: gleaming, shiny, or satin steel for towel bars, toilet roll, and toothbrush holders; glass, metallic, or sleek blond wood shelves; simple mirror, unframed or with steel/wooden frame; plain white or colored towels.
